On 2nd of December, Russian House in Kolkata, jointly with the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots, organized a pre-New Year screening of the Soviet musical fairy tale film "Morozko"
The event was attended by students of grades 3-7 of the Central Modern School (Baranagar, West Bengal), for whom the trip was a reward for diligent behavior and attendance.
The children were acquainted with the peculiarities of the winter holidays in Russia and saw traditional Christmas ornaments made of glass and wood.
The film "Father Frost", or "Morozko" (1964) is designed in the style of a folk tale: there is a storyteller, poetic images of protagonists, rude masks of antagonists, beautiful costumes in the style of Ivan Bilibin's painting, a monolithic and thoughtful plot.
After the screening the young guests received sweet presents from the hands of Father Frost and were offered snacks and juice.

Winter is the best time for the good old fairy tale. Guests of the Russian House in Kolkata not only watched the fairy tale, but also took part in it.
On December 20th, the interactive show "The Snow Queen" based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen was presented to the guests of the Russian House. Children and adults danced with the Russian Snow Maiden, had a round dance with the traditional New Year's song "The forest raised a Christmas tree", played snowballs, painted ornaments and tried on reindeer horns. Russian Father Frost surprised everyone with his Indian drumming. Children demonstrated their talents to him and received gifts.
Russian compatriots took part in the production: Adyann Bajoria (Snowman), Yaroslava Murzaykina (Snowflake), Eva Kol (Gerda), Arthur Kol (Kai), Tatiana Bogdanova (Storyteller), Irina Malysheva (Snow Queen), Ekaterina Murzaikina (Snow Maiden) and Yuri Lebedev (Father Frost).

Когда приходит зима, наступает самое время для доброй сказки. Гости Русского дома в Калькутте не только посмотрели сказку, но и смогли стать её героями.
Интерактивное шоу "Снежная королева" по мотивам одноимённой сказки Ханса Кристиана Андерсена было представлено гостям Русского дома 20 декабря. Дети и взрослые танцевали со Снегурочкой, водили хоровод с традиционной новогодней песней "В лесу родилась ёлочка", играли в снежки, расписывали ёлочные украшения и примеряли рожки северных оленей. Everyone knows where the main wizard of Russia lives - in Veliky Ustyug, Vologda region. This place is most imbued with the New Year mood. In 1999, Veliky Ustyug began to be called the birthplace of the Russian Father Frost.
The city was founded in the 13th century. In the residence of Father Frost, you will see how the main New Year character lives, you can send a letter to a child with a return address “from Father Frost”, try an ice slide or ride a deer. There are many monasteries and churches in Veliky Ustyug. On the territory of the city you can visit the Museum of Old Russian Art, an interesting place to study icon painting, and the Museum of New Year and Christmas toys.
All letters sent to Father Ftost are forwarded here. Every year, the Veliky Ustyug post handles about 1 million messages, and not only children, but also adults write to it. The city is also famous for its "shanezhka" - open pies with different fillings.

Who is the Snow Maiden? ❄️
In Russia, the main characters of the New Year are considered to be the Father Frost and the Snow Maiden. The snow beauty gained wide popularity only in the 19th century after the release of a fairy tale, a play in verse by Alexander Ostrovsky about a doll made of snow, which later came to life.
According to legend, the Snow Maiden lives in the kingdom of Berendeyevo. In fact, there is a village Berendeevka, located in the Yaroslavl province. The relationship between the Snow Maiden and Father Frost changed. If in Ostrovsky's fairy tale the Snow Maiden was the daughter of Father Frost, now she is believed to be his granddaughter.
The heroine has her own residence in Kostroma. The hostess always greets guests with a traditional treat - bread and salt. After the Snow Maiden introduces the guests to the assistants - the cat Bayun and a couple of the household spirits - brownies.
Snow Maiden's residence has a special Ice Room. This is a very cold place, where the temperature is constant all year round - minus 15 degrees. Guests are offered Russian fur coats and felt boots. The Ice Room itself is small. Icicles hang from the air conditioner, and the light bulbs on the ceiling are covered in snow. The room is decorated with ice figurines.
