Today, Russian House in Kolkata has held an Open Lesson dedicated to this holiday.
Madhabi Bhattacharya, the Head of Russian language courses, and Sergey Shushin, vice-consul and director of the Russian House, introduced interesting facts about the creation of Slavic writing by Cyril and Methodius in the 9th century, the history of development of the Russian language and its importance in the world.

Indian delegation is departing to discover Moscow and the mountanous Altai territory in the framework of the "Hello, Russia!" program
On 17 July, a delegation of young Russian compatriots permanently residing in India has started the educational trip to Moscow and the Atlai territory of the Russian Siberia. The series of trips to Russia are organized by the Russian House (Rossotrudnichestvo Federal Agency) for Russian compatriots of 14 to 19 years of age living in different countries of the world. The project aims to introduce teenagers to diverse Russian natural and historical attractions, immerse them into the rich Russian culture and create a possibility of building international ties.
This year, 3 children from the Bengaluru, Kolkata and Kozhikode and 1 accompanying adult have been selected to represent India and interact with other teams from different countries: Australia, Belarus, Germany, Israel, Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Uganda, Spain, China, Serbia and France.
The Altai territory hosts the "Hello, Russia!" program the first time. The mountainous Altai is a true gem of Siberia. The Altai Mountains are located in the very heart of Russia — near the border with Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China. They are often called “Russian Tibet”. The Indian delegation will cover Moscow and the Altai in the next 10 days.

Russian House in Kolkata hosted the Education Fair. Ekaterina Lazareva, Attaché, Head of Protocol, Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata, was present to inaugurate the fair on July, 18th.
Several top state universities of Russia such as Pirogov Russian National Research University, Orenburg State Medical University, Moscow State University of Psychology and Education, Mari State University, Perm State Medical University, St.Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University and Moscow Institute of Architecture took part in the event.
The fair serves a free platform to apply directly to the institution of their choice, and get first-hand information on courses, scholarship seats, availability of Indian food at universities, complete passport and visa assistance, preparation of documents for the students, accommodation facilities offered by the universities and much more.

Kolkata students marked the 130th birth anniversary of a Soviet poet Vladimir Mayakovsky
The students of Russian language courses at the Russian House in Kolkata held a special lesson dedicated to the 130th birth anniversary of a Soviet poet Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930).
On 20 July an exhibition of photographs on life and work of the poet was prepared at the Russian House in Kolkata. Students discussed Mayakovsky's life path and works and recited his poems. In conclusion, a short documentary film “Flowers from Mayakovsky” was screened.

Indian citizens and Russian compatriots took part in the Geographical Dictation in Kolkata
🌏 On 19 November 2023, the Russian House in Kolkata became one of 10625 sites in the world, participating in this educational event.
The Geographical Dictation is an annual education campaign, organized by the Russian Geographical Society. It is held annually on all the continents and even in space, at the International Space Station. 🚀 Website of the project: https://dictant.rgo.ru/en
Irina Malysheva, responsible organizer of the site, demonstrated the video address of the Russian cosmonauts from the space station and the greetings from the other unusual sites - at the Progress research station in Antarctica, on the Mount Elbrus (at an altitude of 3912 m), on the Vostochny Cosmodrome, on board the nuclear icebreaker "Siberia".
✅️ Participants had 1 hour to work on the Geographical Dictation, after which they have been awarded the certificates on participation and interacted with Sergey Shushin, head of the Russian House in Kolkata, who congratulated them on the accomplishment.

🇷🇺 Russian House in Kolkata celebrates the International Mother Language Day
Today, the world celebrates International Mother Language Day. Russian language students of the Russian House in laid flowers to the memorial of the language martyrs on the invitation of the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission.
The holiday was established by UNESCO to protect cultural and linguistic diversity after the tragic events of 1952 in Bangladesh with the Bengali language movement.
We offer some interesting facts about the languages of the peoples of Russia 👇
📚 193 peoples living in Russia use approximately 277 languages and dialects. The peoples of Russia speak languages that are not part of any family - they are called isolated languages.
📜 Proto-Slavic language is the “ancestor” of all ancient and modern Slavic languages.
📃 The common East Slavic language emerged around the VI-VII century, and later the Old Russian language was formed, which existed until the XIV century.
📌 Tabasaran is one of the northeastern languages of the Lezgin group, known for its unique case system, since names can have about 46 different cases.
📌 Ket is the only language of the Yenisei family of languages that is still in use. The Ket language preserves elements of the living Ket culture and is important for preserving their heritage.
📌 In the Adyghe language, a verb can replace an entire sentence.
📌 In the Yakut language, many words begin with the letter “s”.
📌 In the Chechen language, counting is done in twenties.

Сегодня мир отмечает Международный день родного языка. Студенты-русисты Русского дома возложили цветы к мемориалу активистов в защиту бенгальского языка по приглашению Верховного комиссариата Бангладеш.
Праздник был учрежден ЮНЕСКО для защиты культурного и языкового разнообразия после трагических событий в Бангладеш 1952 года с активистами движения в защиту бенгальского языка.

Russian pioneer of the Bengali theater remembered in Kolkata
On 27 February, Russian House in Kolkata held a lecture in commemoration of the famous indologist of the 18th century, Gerasim Ledevev (1749 - 1817).
Gerasim Lebedev spent about a decade in Calcutta, during which he studied Hindi, Sanskrit and Bengali, and also founded a theatre in 1795. On his return to Russia, Lebedev established a printing house in St.Petersburg, equipped with Devanagari and Bengali scripts, the first of its kind in Europe.

Three participants of the World Youth Festival 2024 met at the Maslenitsa festival in Kolkata
🌏 Somoshri Paladhi, Post-Graduate Student of Comparative Literature, shares her experience at the World Youth Festival held at the Sirius Federal Territory, Russia.
💬 "It was truly extraordinary... From the colorful airport welcome to warm embraces from volunteers, every moment I felt like a celebrity on the red carpet. The festival, spanning from March 1st to 7th, brought together people from Egypt to China, fostering cross-cultural bonds.
The festival began with
a grand opening ceremony featuring talented artists, performers, and singers. During the ceremony, I had the chance to listen to the soulful voice of the renowned Russian singer,
Polina Gagarina, as she sang “A Milion Voices” – a song that perfectly went in tune with the festival.
The event venue, akin to a bustling city, housed diverse activities and pavilions showcasing Russian traditions. Grand concerts, fun games, and engaging activities like graffiti making added to the excitement, as I had fun exploring and participating in them.
Further, on one of the days of the festival, the World Youth Parade took place, where participants joined in their traditional attire. It was such an immersive and one-of-a-kind
experience to see and feel 20,000 participants worldwide, walking in a parade, singing songs, and breaking into their traditional and regional cultural performances!
🌊 From exploring Sochi's scenic beauty at the port to relishing the mouthwatering Russian cuisine, remained as delightful highlights for me during the festival.
I entered Sochi with a bag filled with my belongings and left the city, with a heart brimming with love and memories that will remain in me until I again get to become another participant to yet another World Youth Festival just like this!"

May, 24 is celebrated annually as the Day the Slavic Writing and Culture is celebrated to glorify the creators of Slavic writing - the Saints Cyril and Methodius.
Today, Russian House in Kolkata has held a session with students of the Russian language courses dedicated to this holiday. Alexey Idamkin, Consul General of Russia in Kolkata, attended the session.
Madhabi Bhattacharya, head of Institute of Russian language, and Sergey Shushin, vice-consul and director of the Russian House, addressed the students.
The presentation about the creation of Slavic writing, the history of the Russian language and its importance in the world was deliveredby the students.
