Stupid tech takes: Valve said Linus that they can't subsidize the device in any way since they can't guarantee that users will stay on Steam OS and/or buy games...

DBrand (a famous accessories company) announced their companion cube mod for Steam Machines. And it received the best preorders ever... to be taken down in a few hours when Valve figured out.

They are not against the accessories but DBrand never warned them about Companion Cube usage and it's their IP. Its design, name, and such are Valve's property.

DBrand tried to negotiate and Valve insisted that due to the initial illegal usage they now can't allow it even if certain deal would be proposed.

It took about 20 minutes for one of the first Steam Machines to get the GPU fried. To make it funnier, the errors are marked as LED-stripe on the frontal part of the device. Which reminds of the legendary XBOX Ring of Death issue but it took weeks before the first case appeared, not days.

Users can't replace the GPU alone, it's not replaceable, so they've had to ask for the replacement from Valve (and wait due to supply issues)

You can now make Steam gifts without Steam accounts and between currencies (with compensation),

+ Wishlists now support categories, search, sharing, and more. Those are technically two different updates but under the same goal.

Oddly enough, Counter Strike 2 just lost anticheat. The new one is not yet available but the game seemingly even stopped giving VAC bans due to the update. It's gonna be the worst time to play the game.

Seemingly Valve lost about 13TB of data which can lead to security issues and maybe unannounced games to become public.

The archive is still under investigation and take this story with a grain of salt. UPD: multiple bigger sources confirmed the leak.

And this is why modern open world games suck at it: their animation systems are never actually making the eyes properly pointed at anyone in dialogues.

The promotional campaign of Steam Frame looks odd: I don't recognise these actors as gamers which kinda breaks the immersion... why are they doing an Apple Vision Wireless vibes?

In the meantime, the least popular live-service by Valve is dominating the market (despite it's not even released yet)

Funny enough, people rage-bating Valve over it, but the issue is purely legal: the new law in Japan forced them to do this.

Valve just quietly dropped the Steam client update. It made the loading times much faster. It's also much faster now than Epic's vibe coded atrocity 🀣

And this Steam fix is not unexpected: beta of this update was available for over a month. Epic may knew it if they would check it (at least with their AI)

The superior startup time was generally the only advantage Epic was able to show, so...

These are 3000+ names engraved on the glass wall of Leviathan main staircase, a $500m mega-yacht of Gabe Newell. Those are each and every name of the team who built it, added there by Gabe's request.
