A good one and also applies to games: this is why Batman Arkham Knight feels real, and Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad aren't:

This may sound stupid, but because of the yellow tint in The Witcher 3, I stopped liking its visuals this time. AI ruined sepia for me, all yellow images cause a pure disgust.

Doubt GIF: the guy who literally stole as is the design of another artist and didn't inform him in any way, is proud now. Yes, they literally took the whole color palette of the game from a poster maker fella, then also cut his posters to in-game icons,…

After the art director of Marathon was fired, the company proudly announced a way more generic look of the game. Since alpha, they mostly got rid of toon shader and now it's Apex Legends 2 kind of thing.

Mirror's Edge art style was an accident: the company was originally making a typical UE3 game with yellow filter, but players got horrible motion sickness.
After a few tries they discovered that simplified colors and geometry can significantly improve the preserved stability and eliminate motion sickness.

Stepped into a pit of color grading my monitor (without any equipment by the way). I just was like: yeah, I'll figure it out.
Kind reminder that color representation is a context-based thing and so a human can't and should never do colors outside of their context.
Anyway, I'm happy with how it is now, but can't recommend it to anyone. And the solution is to use RTNGS graded file + NOVIDEO_SRGB, as usual.

And to continue "characters art direction" discussion, here's the notable example:
This is Elex II and Elex. The wife of the main character looks so strikingly different in the second one (above) and their overall human rendering and modelling system was simply the worst part of the whole sequel.
The original was way too stylized, but it definitely stood out. Their skin shader was so much better and consistent. The new one is glossy, like they are all made of plastic.
Also, both games are one of a kind RPGs with unmatched freedom. You can pick factions to only become a spy inside for a totally different faction or join the underground thieves guild (you can easily miss). A lot of dialogues depend on your current squad, like my ex-wife forced a guard to give me back the bribe TWICE, since she's his boss.

Why Modern Movies Feel Small (and how Denis Villeneuve fixed it)
Denis Villeneuve understands something about cinematography and visual scale that the MCU has forgotten. In this video, we deconstruct how the director of Dune, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 uses "Atmospheric Perspective" and "Human Anchors" to create massive…

Oh, I maybe have a less controversial (and cheaper) game for ya: Blacktail (also 80% off now)
Literally zero chance to explain the game, but when the whole story sums up, it clicks. The combat is good, metroidvania-like things are good, etc.
Hint: do not fight bees, find the bee queen and become her friend.

We Happy Few
(Lightbearer DLC)
You play as a rockstar investigating last night events after something went terribly wrong right before the world tour. The character also exists in the main story as the optional side quests line.
Also tried the survival arcade mode where you can explore the procedurally generated and fairly big city as one of two main characters (Arthur or Sally). Somehow they hid a lot of great stuff in there, like homes secretly populated by downers or infected (who took down the owners). Arcade supports three map sizes, permanent death, etc.
