WMO announces calendar competition winners
WMO has announced the winners of  the 2024 WMO calendar competition, which showcases the theme of climate action.

Hundreds of stunning entries from around the world were received, and narrowing them down was a difficult task.

The WMO jury consisted of communications experts, photographers, meteorologists and scientists). Winning photographs were selected based on a combination of technical and artistic merit, meteorological interest, social media popularity and relevance to the World Meteorological Day 2024 theme of At the frontline of climate action.

We are proud that we were able to select amazing photographs from almost every region of the world.

The 13 winning photos will be featured in the printed 2024 WMO Calendar, and showcased on WMO social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Youtube). In addition to the winning photos, the jury also selected 12 amazing photos for the Honourable Mentions category.

A special thanks to our sponsor, the Meteorological Technology World Expo, for their generous contribution to printing the calendar.

Since its launch in 2014, the WMO calendar competition has gained in stature and recognition and the entries have been extremely popular on all of our social media platforms.

WMO and its UN partners regularly use photographs from the calendar competition to illustrate news stories and web features. The photos are also often featured in communications activities by the United Nations Secretary-General’s team to illustrate the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.

WMO sends its thanks to all photographers and everyone who participated in this much-loved annual activity.

By now you know that a warmer atmosphere holds more water. This is part of a feedback loop per the @UWMadison Weather Guys because as atmospheric water vapor increases, it gets harder for Earth to lose energy to space overnight, resulting in more warming. wxguys.ssec.wisc.edu/2023/10…
