At the last report, #TyphoonKoinu had sustained winds of 110 mph.

Japan's #Himawari9 🛰️ is closely monitoring #TyphoonKoinu off the coast of Taiwan as the sun sets overhead. With sustained winds of around 130 mph, #Koinu is the equivalent of a Category 4 Atlantic hurricane.

Copious moisture is wrapped up in Typhoon #Koinu (#JennyPH) per this 48-hour loop of Total Precipitable Water data. While landfall will take place on Taiwan’s southeast coast, the entire island will experience heavy rainfall. The northern Philippines have had heavy rains as well.

Amazing #Sentinel2 satellite image of Typhoon #Koinu to the east of Taiwan, China.
At its peak, Koinu had reported wind speeds of 343 kmh or 213 mph, 95 m/s). If verified, that would be the 3rd highest surface winds on record, says WMO climate extremes rapporteur.
