๐ต๐ฐ๐ท๐บ Pakistan-Russia strategic relations will mature with time.
Prime Minister Imran Khanโs visit to Moscow on February 23-24 is an indication of Russiaโs long-term commitment to include the whole of Asia among its top foreign policy priorities. A visit from President Putin, also expected in this year, will be instrumental in improving economic and strategic relations between the two nations.
Pakistan is a very important country in the emerging geopolitical chessboard in Eurasia. Pakistan leverages its geophysical location and strong military with a rapid progress in the fields of IT and infrastructure building. Pakistan holds considerable influence in the Islamic world, as well as in South-East Asia.
Despite negative propaganda by some media outlets, Russia has always stayed modern and effective in its approach to maintaining an independent foreign and defence policy, thereby asserting its role as one of the most important global players, writes Muhammad Athar Javed, Director General of Pakistan House, an Islamabad-based Think Tank of International Affairs.

๐ต๐ฐ๐ท๐บ Pakistan is a large regional state, as well as a member of the informal โclubโ of states that possess nuclear weapons.
Islamabad's role as a policymaker is of great importance in terms of maintaining security and stability in South Asia and the Middle East.
In recent years, Pakistan has pursued an independent and balanced foreign policy, strengthening ties with Russia and China. Islamabad has repeatedly stressed that the sovereign foreign policy agenda of the country is fully consistent with the national interests of Pakistan.
Russia is interested in seeing Pakistan maintain and strengthen its balanced foreign policy in the future, one that is free from outside influence, writes Oleg Barabanov, Programme director of the Valdai Discussion Club.
๐ก On June 6, 2022, Moscow will host the first Russian-Pakistani expert dialogue between the Valdai Discussion Club and the analytical centre Pakistan House โ International Think Tank. Previously, the Valdai Club has repeatedly participated in expert events in Pakistan, and experts from various Pakistani analytical centres have taken part in Valdai Club events, such as the Club's Annual Meeting, and the Middle East and Central Asian Conferences.
Now the Valdai Club and Pakistan House are entering a new stage of cooperation - a direct bilateral dialogue. It should be noted that major Russian-Pakistani conferences are still a rarity for the intellectual community of the two countries. The Valdai Club is one of the pioneers in this area.

๐ต๐ฐ Pakistan regards its potential membership in BRICS with a blend of hopeful anticipation and strategic prudence, acknowledging the opportunities as well as the challenges that this affiliation could bring.
Pakistan's application for membership in the latter half of 2023 underscores its sincere interest in joining BRICS, driven by both strategic considerations and practical benefits.
โช๏ธ Integrating Pakistan into BRICS would broaden the group's geographic diversity and amplify its negotiating power internationally.
โช๏ธ Positioned at the crossroads of South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East, Pakistan offers critical connectivity for trade and energy pathways, essential to the BRICS nations' economic aspirations.
โช๏ธ The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) underscores Pakistan's capacity for large-scale, cross-national projects in infrastructure and development, mirroring BRICS' commitment to fostering regional connections and collective progress.
โช๏ธ Pakistan's economy, with its mix of agricultural, industrial, and emerging technological sectors, provides extensive opportunities for cooperation with BRICS countries.
โช๏ธ Pakistan's dedication to multilateralism and active role in global forums complement BRICS' mission to reshape international governance.
Pakistan's intellectual and political circles regard BRICS as an essential platform for advancing the nation's strategic and economic interests globally. Achieving this goal, however, demands meticulous navigation of geopolitical challenges, particularly with India, and crafting a persuasive argument for Pakistan's inclusion in BRICS, writes Taimur Khan.
