On 27 November, Maxim Kozlov, #Russian Consul General in Kolkata, Ekaterina Tyurina, Vice-Consul and Gautam Ghosh, Programme Officer at Gorky Sadan, along with citizens of #Kolkata gathered to lay flowers to the memorial plaque to Gerasim #Lebedev (1749 - 1817), the first Russian #Indologist, pioneer of #Bengali drama, #translator, #musician and founder of the first first modern European-style national drama #theatre.
This year marks his 225th birth anniversary and the 229th anniversary of the #foundation of the very theater where Gerasim Lebedev created on his own the musical accompaniment, combining Indian singing and European music, Indian songs and dances, as well as the poems of the popular Bengali poet Bharat Chandra Ray.

165th Anton Chekhov's birth anniversary marked in Kolkata

On February 4th, the Institute of Russian Language, Russian House in Kolkata celebrated the 165th birth anniversary of a reknowned Russian playwright and short story writer Anton Chekhov.

Sergey Shushin, Director of the Russian House, gave an introductory note of importance of Chekhov's work in today's world literature. Students presented their research works on Anton Chekhov and key features of his literary style.

The exhibition on life and works of Chekhov accompanied the event.

165-летие со дня рождения Антона Чехова отметили в Калькутте

4 февраля Институт русского языка Русского дома в Калькутте отпраздновал 165-летие со дня рождения известного русского драматурга и писателя Антона Чехова.

Директор Русского дома в Калькутте Сергей Шушин открыл мероприятие речью о значении творчества А. П. Чехова в современной мировой литературе. Студенты представили свои исследовательские работы о Чехове и основных чертах его литературного стиля.

Мероприятие сопровождала выставка, посвященная жизни и творчеству писателя.

Poetry meeting was held at the Russian pavilion of rhe 48th Kolkata International Book Fair

On February 6, the Russian language students visited the Russian pavilion of the 48th Kolkata International Book Fair. They presented a cultural programme, which included the famous "Katyusha" song as a tribute to the theme of the Russian pavilion - the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Fascism. This was followed by a quiz covering the cultural and literary aspect of Russia, conducted by Gautam Ghosh, Programme Officer of the Russian House.

The poetry session was opened by Maxim Kozlov, Consul General of Russia in Kolkata. Eminent Bengal poets and journalist participated in this session, moderated by Debashmita Moulick, Senior Journalist, Academic Advisor, Moscow State Linguistic University. The students of the Russian Language Institute recited poems by Alexander Pushkin.

Поэтическая встреча прошла в российском павильоне 48-й Международной книжной ярмарки в Калькутте

6 февраля студенты-русисты посетили российский павильон 48-й Международной книжной ярмарки в Калькутте. Они представили культурную программу, включавшую знаменитую песню «Катюша» в честь темы российского павильона — 80-летия Победы над фашизмом. Затем последовала викторина, охватывающая культурный и литературный аспект России, которую провел сотрудник Русского дома Гаутам Гхош.

Поэтическую сессию открыл генеральный консул России в Калькутте Максим Козлов. В сессии приняли участие выдающиеся бенгальские поэты и журналисты, модератором выступила Дебашмита Мулик, старший журналист, научный руководитель Московского государственного лингвистического университета. Студенты Института русского языка прочитали стихотворения Александра Пушкина.

🇷🇺🇮🇳On January 30, a group of #Russian students, who learn #Bengali and #Hindi languages at #MGIMO University along with Prof. Irina Prokofieva, visited St. Joan's School, where they met Principal Mrs. Debjani Ghosh as well as participated in the fascinating cultural exchange program.

🪕🕺The #students of this school have prepared a great number of incredible musical and dance #performances. School teacher Arnita Chaterjee taught MGIMO students an Indian dance named "Rabindra Nritya" on Rabindranath Tagore's song "Aaji Shubhodine".

🎸Russian students also surprised local audience by performing live legendary Bengali songs - "Dhitang Dhitang Bole" and "Ami Banglai Gaan Gai", the last of which they sang also partly in Russian, with its translation having been made by them as well.
