If you want to travel back in time and enjoy the peace of a Russian manor house, go to Yasnaya Polyana: its apple orchard, ponds, alleys, parks and wings, which have retained their appearance since the 19th century, allow guests to feel all the charm of the old manor. The program of admiring the views can start from the Big Pond, which opens to the guests from the elevation next to the stables and the house of Tolstoy's grandfather, Nikolai Volkonsky. It is worth not only to walk along the wide "Prešpekt", but also to wander along the paths and birch bridges in the English Park. There are more than 30 interesting objects to see here, and it is especially worth paying attention to Tolstoy's house itself and the Kuzminskys' outbuilding, where Leo opened a school for peasant children.
Yasnaya Polyana is not a museum, but an estate, still living its own life: here they gather apples, work at the apiary, open the stables. It is better to come in summer, and not only because of the more pleasant weather: at this time, the literary and theatrical festival "Tolstoy" is held here, which annually gathers guests from Russia and other countries.

195th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy was marked in Kolkata
On 21 September students of the Russian language courses at the Russian House in Kolkata marked the 195th birth anniversary of world famous writer Leo Tolstoy.
Sergey Shushin, Vice Consul and Director of the Russian House addressed the gathering of student enthusiasts with remarkable facts on the Tolstoy's life. Madhabi Bhattacharya, Director, Institute of Russian Language elaborated on Tolstoy's journey through life.
An illustrative lecture on Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi, poem recitals were delivered by the students.
Three documentary films and an exhibition of photographs have been organized by the Russian House, as well as a quiz on life and activities of Leo Tolstoy.
Certificates were awarded to the successful students of the Institute.

Сергей Шушин, вице-консул и директор Русского дома, в своём обращении к студентам упомянул знаменательные факты из жизни Толстого. Мадхаби Бхаттачарья, директор Института русского языка, подробно рассказала о жизненном пути Толстого.
Студенты подготовили лекцию о Льве Толстом и Махатме Ганди, прочитали стихотворения.
Русский Дом организовал три документальных фильма и выставку фотографий, а также викторину о жизни и деятельности Льва Толстого.
Успешным студентам института были вручены сертификаты.
