Kolkata honored Leo Tolstoy on the 194th birth anniversary of the writer
On 12 September 2022, Institute of Russian Language, Russian House in Kolkata, marked the 194th birth anniversary of Leo Tolstoy with a literary evening. Shahzad Firdaus, eminent Bengali novelist, attended the ceremony as chief guest. Mr Firdaus spoke in detail about the life and creativity of Leo Tolstoy. He noted the significant importance of the writings and personality of Tolstoy in the contemporary world and beyond. Mr Firdaus was welcomed with a humble presentation of a colourful framed portrait of Leo Tolstoy.
Among the students, Tanushree Chatterjee narrated in detail the life sketch of Leo Tolstoy. Ms Mou Bhattacharya spoke about the significance of the short story entitled "Three Questions". Ms Somoshr Palladi presented a paper on comparative study on relation between Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy, the two stalwarts. An audio drama "How Much Land Does A Man Need" was presented by the students Natasha Ghose, Madhubanti Choudhury, Saswati Manna, Somoshri Palladhi, Natasha Sinha and Sofia Izhaar. The programme was conducted by Ms Madhabi Bhattacharya, director, Institute of Russian Language.
On this solemn occasion certificates were presented to the successful students. An illustrative exhibition of more than 100 photographs on Lev Nicholaevich Tolstoy was showcased.

Yasnaya Polyana is not a museum, but an estate, still living its own life: here they gather apples, work at the apiary, open the stables. It is better to come in summer, and not only because of the more pleasant weather: at this time, the literary and theatrical festival "Tolstoy" is held here, which annually gathers guests from Russia and other countries.

195th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy was marked in Kolkata
On 21 September students of the Russian language courses at the Russian House in Kolkata marked the 195th birth anniversary of world famous writer Leo Tolstoy.
Sergey Shushin, Vice Consul and Director of the Russian House addressed the gathering of student enthusiasts with remarkable facts on the Tolstoy's life. Madhabi Bhattacharya, Director, Institute of Russian Language elaborated on Tolstoy's journey through life.
An illustrative lecture on Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi, poem recitals were delivered by the students.
Three documentary films and an exhibition of photographs have been organized by the Russian House, as well as a quiz on life and activities of Leo Tolstoy.
Certificates were awarded to the successful students of the Institute.

21 сентября студенты курсов русского языка Русского дома в Калькутте отметили 195-летие со дня рождения всемирно известного писателя Льва Николаевича Толстого.
Сергей Шушин, вице-консул и директор Русского дома, в своём обращении к студентам упомянул знаменательные факты из жизни Толстого. Мадхаби Бхаттачарья, директор Института русского языка, подробно рассказала о жизненном пути Толстого.
Студенты подготовили лекцию о Льве Толстом и Махатме Ганди, прочитали стихотворения.
Русский Дом организовал три документальных фильма и выставку фотографий, а также викторину о жизни и деятельности Льва Толстого.
Успешным студентам института были вручены сертификаты.

The event was attended by representatives of the jury of the prize, famous diplomats, politicians and prominent figures of culture and art, including the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for international cultural cooperation Mikhail Efimovich Shvydkoi, public figure and grandson of former French President Charles de Gaulle, Pierre de Gaulle, and director of the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theaters Valery Abisalovich Gergiev.
🎶 Guests of the ceremony were also able to hear works by the famous Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky performed by the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra.
🕊 The Leo Tolstoy Peace Prize Foundation was established by the Russian Historical Society, the Russian Peace Foundation and the Russian Military Historical Society in 2022 to encourage efforts to prevent wars, preserve peace and build a multipolar order.
