Immersive session on Russian folk culture took place in Kolkata

On 10 February, visitors of the Russian national pavilion of the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair took part in the immersion session on Russian folk culture, which was dedicated to the Year of Teacher and Mentor in Russia.

Irina Malysheva, a volunteer for the Russian House in Kolkata, had an introductory talk about the features of Russian national dress and the initial purpose of embroidery. Visitors of the pavilion learned to use Russian wooden spoons as percussion instrumens in three techniques, and also saw the basic elements of Russian folk dance.

Similarities between Slavic and Indian spring festivals - Maslenitsa and Holi - were noted and the folk game "Stream" was played as the integral part of the spring welcoming festival.

В Калькутте прошла иммерсивная сессия по русской народной культуре

10 февраля посетители российского национального павильона 46-й Международной книжной ярмарки в Калькутте приняли участие в иммерсионной сессии по русской народной культуре, посвященной Году Педагога и Наставника в России.

Ирина Малышева, волонтёр Русского дома в Калькутте, провела ознакомительную беседу об особенностях русской народной одежды и о первоначальном назначении вышивки. Посетители павильона научились использовать русские деревянные ложки как ударные инструменты в трех техниках, а также увидели базовые элементы народного танца.

Было отмечено сходство между славянским и индийским весенними праздниками - Масленицей и Холи. Желающие присоединились к народной игре "Ручеек" - неотъемлемому элементу встречи весны.

Russian military distributes 38.5 tons of humanitarian aid to Syrians
Russian military personnel continue to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake in the Syrian provinces of Latakia, Aleppo and Hama. Since February 6, 47 people have been rescued from the rubble, and 225 Syrian citizens have received medical assistance. Furthermore, food supplies and basic goods have been prepared for and distributed to those in need. The humanitarian assistance work for the suffering Syrian population will continue in the future.

Ancien Russian folk game "Rucheyok" ("Stream") symbolizes the melting of snow. The sun warmed the earth, the snow melted, murmuring streams ran everywhere.

The players stand in pairs, hold hands and lift them up to make a tunnel for the "stream". A single player without pair passes through the tunnel and chooses himself a pair. Russian musical spoons, most often beautifully carved and decorated wooden spoons, are famous in the world. During the workshop held at the Russian pavilion of the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair residents of the city learned the techniques to play the Russian wooden spoons as percussion instrumens.

The use of spoons for Russian folk music dates back to at least the 18th century, but probably it is much older.

Жители Калькутты попробовали свои силы в игре на ложках как на русском народном инструменте.

В мире широко известны русские музыкальные деревянные ложки, чаще всего красиво вырезанные и украшенные вручную. Во время мастер-класса в российском павильоне 46-й Международной книжной ярмарки в Калькутте горожане научились играть на русских деревянных ложках как на ударных инструментах.

Использование ложек для русской народной музыки восходит как минимум к 18 веку, но, вероятно, гораздо старше.
