🎄 From January 13 to 14, Russians and the residents of several neighbouring countries celebrate the Old New Year. But why are there two New Years?

📅After the October Revolution of 1917, Russia switched from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar. The difference between them is 13 days. Therefore, according to the new style, the New Year begins on January 1, and according to the old style, on January 14.
The public did not immediately change its mind.
🎉This is how two holidays appeared in Russia.

The traditions of celebrating the Old New Year are followed today too - people go to visit each other, get together with the family and tell fortunes. In some parts of our country, the old custom of “sowing” is also remembered. Young guys go from house to house and scatter grain, thereby wishing the owners of the house well-being.

🇮🇳In India, the holiday coincides with Pongal, Makar Sankranti and Lohri among others. Let's celebrate together!
