Saint Petersburg? Petrograd? Leningrad? 🇷🇺
🔹During its history, the Northern Capital of Russia has been renamed several times. In 1703, Peter I commissioned the construction of a fortress, which he named in honor of the Apostle Peter – St. Petersburg. The city being built around it, and in 1720 it became known as St. Petersburg.
🔹At the beginning of the World War I on the initiative of Tsar Nicholas II, it was decided to choose a name more familiar to the Russian ear - Petrograd.
🔹The city has had this name for only 10 years. After Lenin's death, in memory of him, on January 26, 1924, the Central Committee of the CPSU renamed Petrograd Leningrad.
🔹In 1991, following a referendum, the city was returned to its original name — St. Petersburg. Nowadays, the city has received the status of the cultural capital of Russia: 36 cultural and historical complexes of St. Petersburg are included in the UNESCO list of historical heritage, as well as more than 80 theaters and many other cultural institutions.

🎓Russian language teacher from Bangalore Ms. Shisterova Natalia participated in advanced training courses for teachers of Russian as a foreign language at St. Petersburg State University.
✅Ms. Shisterova Natalia shared her thoughts about advanced training courses:
"For me, the courses were very useful and informative.
🔸Many lectures were about modern methods of teaching bilingual children. I have learnt about different game practices and interesting approaches to the presentation of material, so that children would be interested and not bored during classes. We have already started implementing many things in the classroom.
🔸Participants from 15 countries joined the courses - this is a great opportunity to exchange experience and open joint projects.
🔸Our school was invited to participate in the "International Fairy Tale Contest". Thanks to the experience and achievements of colleagues, a new educational project for teenagers is currently being launched in Bangalore, where children will study the history of the development of literary, artistic, and theatrical art. Teenagers will be able not only to improve their knowledge of the Russian language, but also to show their other talents".

🤍💙❤The Lakhta Center in Saint Petersburg, 462 metres tall, is the tallest building in Europe. It serves as the headquarters for global energy giant, Gazprom.
🌇The tower’s organic ‘spire’ shape symbolises the power of water, while the standout glass facade allows the building to change colour depending on the position of the sun, giving the impression of a living object.

📌🇷🇺Let's travel today to the Saint Petersburg's outskirts, Royal Residence Gatchina!
🏰The royal residence became a city in the late XVIII century, when its owner was Emperor Paul I, he was actively engaged in the rebuilding and arrangement of the territory.
☎Gatchina was the first place where the long-distance telephone network was tested. In 1882 (6 years after the telephone was invented), the first telephone line in Russia was laid in the town.
💡In 1881 for the first time in the Russian Empire in Gatchina there was electric street lighting.
🚂Another interesting fact! In 1900, the first monorail in Russia was tested in the city. On it an open suspended carriage worked. It could accommodate up to 20 people.
🐰If you're planning a trip with children, they'll love the Palace Farm! (https://gatchinapalace.ru/park/farm/) It is home for a variety of animals, from Yakutian huskies to white peacocks.
