Today, we commemorate the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak & his fiancée Martina Kušnirova in #Slovakia 6 yrs. ago. This heinous crime continues to be a sad reminder of the dangers that journalists face. I will continue to advocate for full justice & for the #SafetyOfJournalists.
Today, at "The new frontline: working together to advance the safety of journalists in SEE" conference, we present our #SafetyofJournalists Toolbox & #SOFJO Monitoring Guidelines.🙏to @OSCE_Serbia for hosting & providing a platform for vibrant exchange on these crucial issues.

Today, at our regional event in #Podgorica🇲🇪 we present our #SafetyofJournalists toolbox that contains very concrete measures on what different stakeholders could do to protect this crucial pillar of our democracies: the media!

Gender-based online attacks against women journalists are detrimental to #MediaFreedom, our democracies & common security. Our Monitoring Guidelines offer key recommendations for prevention of their safety & protection against undue pressure. #SOFJO
Empowering exchanges & constructive dialogue marked my just concluded trip to 🇲🇪, underscoring the importance of robust media legislation, strong public media & pluralistic media sector. Further on the visit & regional event on #SafetyofJournalists below.

Today at our regional event in #Almaty 🇰🇿, participants engaged in insightful & thought-provoking discussions followed by the presentation of our #SafetyOfJournalists toolbox & Guidelines for monitoring online violence against female journalists.

We need a multi stakeholder approach to properly address gender-based violence against women journalists. This is paramount for #MediaFreedom. Our two resources offer key recommendations in this regard. See more:

I urge for the immediate release of journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli whose health condition is a cause of great concern. I reiterate that the Government of #Georgia should unconditionally release all journalists who have been arbitrarily arrested or detained.

Perpetrators of violent attacks against journalists reporting from demonstrations should be investigated and held accountable in line with Ministerial Council Decision 3/18 on the #SafetyofJournalists.
Independent journalism plays a crucial role in countering electoral misinformation, I said yesterday at a side event on #SafetyofJournalists, organized by my Office on the margins of the @oscepa Winter Meeting in Vienna.

Seven years ago today, investigative journalist Ján Kuciak was murdered in #Slovakia alongside his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová, for seeking the truth. The mastermind is still at large. Journalists must be protected, not silenced.

In Ministerial Council Decision 3/18 on #SafetyofJournalists, OSCE participating States have committed to “take effective measures to end impunity for crimes committed against journalists”. They must adhere to these commitments.
