A vibrant media landscape & favorable conditions for independent reporting greatly contribute to more #security. This is why in times of crisis we need more #mediafreedom, not less, I said during the 2nd #SHDM @PLinOSCE @OSCE_ODIHR

We need media to inform us, to engage the public, to be our eyes & ears. As they are in great danger, it is key to ensure their safety while reporting from #Ukraine, I said during #SHDM event Covering War under Threat organized by #OSCE Group of Friends on Safety of Journalists.

When peace and security come under threat, #mediafreedom and democracy are threatened as well. And vice versa: when freedom of the media is under attack, so is peace and security, I said today at the Supplementary Human Dimension Meeting (#SHDM) organized with OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)

We must safeguard #freedomofexpression and #mediafreedom, now and in the years to come. This includes promoting a safe environment where journalists can do their work without fear of imprisonment, violence or surveillance. This was, is and will be key to our comprehensive security.

#SHDM’s first session focuses on major trends and obstacles to #mediafreedom as well as its importance for comprehensive approach to security. All media stakeholders and authorities need to step up efforts and create an enabling environment for independent media to flourish.
