#Democracy & #mediafreedom are too precious to be allowed to wither away, I told the #OSCE States at the presentation of my bi-annual report. Witnessing the sharpest deterioration of media freedom in the 25 years since the Institution was founded, no one can afford to look away.

VIENNA, 3 October 2023 – The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Teresa Ribeiro, issued today a communiqué underscoring the pivotal role of media freedom during elections.
It was an honor to address the Future of Democracy Forum in #Vilnius, emphasizing the vital role that free & pluralistic media play in empowering citizens to actively participate in shaping #democracy.
I welcome the adoption of the @coe Convention on AI & #HumanRights with legally binding safeguards for #Democracy and #RuleofLaw. AI development should be centered on human rights & public interest whereas any limitations of rights should be strictly necessary & proportionate.
