#Lavrov: Along with other countries, #Russia & #India can promote the cause through participation in international efforts to help stabilise the situation in #Afghanistan.

๐ŸŽ™ Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrovโ€™s remarks and answers to media questions following the SCO Foreign Ministers Council meeting (Panaji, May 5, 2023)

#SCO

We have a common vision of problems persisting in the international arena. Our shared desire is to coordinate our actions at the #UN and on the Eurasian continent with such organisations as the #EAEU and #ASEAN, and more globally, to cooperate with the #BRICS countries.

Our colleagues from Central Asia are interested in promoting cooperation on information security and the fight against organised crime and drug trafficking in the SCO space. We think it is important to establish relevant divisions and let them be coordinated by the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure.

There is an understanding that the role of national currencies in settlements between SCO members should be increased. Practices currently taking shape within the Eurasian Development Bank, the Asian Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the BRICS New Development Bank could be used for this purpose.

#Afghanistan

Today, we came to terms on reaffirming the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group. This group exists, although it has been some time since it met. One of the reasons is the Talibanโ€™s status. Thus far, it is not recognised โ€œde jure.โ€ We are expecting the Taliban leaders to fulfill their promises on forming an inclusive government not only in terms of ethnic groups but also by ensuring the presence of the entire spectrum of Afghanistanโ€™s political forces. This has yet to be done.

There is convincing evidence to the effect that the US supports the terrorist groups entrenched in the territory of Afghanistan that are opposed to the Taliban, including the Islamic State, the Islamic Movement of East Turkestan, and Al-Qaeda. The Americans have not abandoned their attempts to reintroduce US military infrastructure in the region surrounding Afghanistan, in Central Asia.

Everyone is well aware of the serious threat inherent in these attempts. We will resolutely oppose them.

After the Black Sea Initiative was concluded in 2022, #Russia numerous times patiently agreed to prolong it despite the fact that the Russian part of it has never been implemented. It has also become clear that the Westโ€™s blatant sabotage of the letter andโ€ฆ
The Russia-#UN Memorandum on the promotion of Russian food products and fertilisers to world markets โ€“ an indispensable part of the package โ€“ has never really worked to a large degree due to the American and the #EUโ€™s rampant sanctions campaign. A number of systematic objectives envisaged by the above MoU have not been implemented till today:

โŽThe Russian agricultural bank โ€œRosselkhozbankโ€ has not been reconnected to the SWIFT system;
โŽ Agricultural machinery, spare parts and any relevant equipment supplies for the production of farm products and fertilisers in Russia have not been resumed and are still banned as imports of โ€œdual-purposeโ€ goods;
โŽThe Western illegitimate unilateral restrictions on Russian cargo vessels insurance, reinsurance and access to foreign ports have not been lifted;
โŽForeign accounts of Russian agricultural companies and the ones involved into the production and transportation have not been unblocked and are still frozen;
โŽThe operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline after it had been blown up by Ukrainians on June 5, 2023 has not been restored.

In fact, we witnessed a commercialization of an initially humanitarian initiative. Out of 32.8 million tonnes of cargo exported under the Initiative:
โ€ผ almost 80% (26.3 million tonnes) was shipped to countries with high and higher than average income, including the EU;
โ€ผ only 3% (922,094 tonnes) โ€“ to the low-income countries โ€“ Ethiopia, Yemen, #Afghanistan, Sudan and Somalia.

Given that significant portion of the Ukrainian arable land (over 17 million hectares) is owned by the American corporations such as Cargill, DuPont and Monsanto, one would be critically wrong to think that the entire scenario does not benefit the #USA and the EU.

The Deal also was misused to supply weapons to #Ukraine and launch strikes against civilian infrastructure, including the #Crimea'n Bridge.

In its turn, Russia is committed to continue supplying its agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets to meet the demands of the countries most in need, including on a gratuitous and preferential basis.

#KievRegimeCrimes

The intentional murder of Russian journalists, as part of the terror unleashed by the Kiev regime against Russiaโ€™s civilian population, demands an appropriate response from the global community and relevant international agencies.

The silence from these institutions is becoming conspicuous, revealing their complete discrediting of the foundational principles upon which their operations and very existence are based. It is evident that through their silence and inaction, they are not merely condoning but are becoming complicit in the Kiev regimeโ€™s crimes.

<...>

Over 15'000 mercenaries from 115 countries have arrived in Ukraine since February 2022. Of these, approximately 2'000 remain in service, while approximately 7'000 have been eliminated, and up to 6'500 have fled back to their home countries.

#West #Ukraine

In December 2024, the administration of the departing US President Joe Biden significantly boosted arms supplies to Ukraine, to ensure that the $61 billion package approved by Congress in April 2024 be fully used up before Donald Trumpโ€™s inauguration. <...>

Americans are not concerned about โ€œhiccupsโ€ in military aid to Kiev but only about their own profits. This is what US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin told journalists on January 9, noting that the conflict in Ukraine allowed the US to invest $70 billion in the development of its own military-industrial complex. <...>

The West is using its all-too-familiar double standards in the situation with the Kiev regimeโ€™s attacks on the compressor plant in the Krasnodar Territory, which pumps gas through the TurkStream pipeline.

#DigitalDictatorship #USA

The curtain has been raised over the inner mechanisms of censorship and manipulation of information and public opinion, with direct meddling by the White House administration. <...>

What the Western media denounced as โ€œfake newsโ€ and โ€œRussian propagandaโ€ for years has turned out to be true, the โ€œroutineโ€ operations of US IT companies. <...>

It is perfectly clear that American digital platforms were willingly and enthusiastic participants of cooperation with the intelligence services and the Biden administration.

#Afghanistan #NATOcrimes

New facts about the savage atrocities committed against civilians by NATO forces during their occupation of Afghanistan in 2001-2021 continue to come to light.

A number of UK media outlets report that a former SAS officer confessed to a non-public investigation that they had a free hand to kill Afghans. <...>

We commend the reporters, including those from the West, who are striving to keep the topic of war crimes committed by the US and its satellites in the public eye.

#RussiaHelps

In 2021, our country made a voluntary targeted contribution of $10.3 million to the UN WFP for the implementation of sustainable school meals programmes in Cambodia, Laos and Sri Lanka. <...>

These contributions to international humanitarian organisations were made in addition to the assistance Russia provides to the Southeast Asia states in need through bilateral channels.
