Why 3 Phase Power Uses √3, Not 3?

Why does the 3-phase power formula use √3 instead of simply multiplying by 3?

✓ Single-phase power is calculated as voltage × current × power factor
✓ In a balanced 3-phase system, the phases are 120° apart
✓ Line voltage is not the same as phase voltage
✓ 220V phase voltage becomes about 380V line voltage
✓ When using line voltage and line current, the correct formula is √3 × VL × IL × PF
✓ √3 equals about 1.732
✓ This is why the 3-phase line-voltage formula uses 1.732, not 3

Note:
Total 3-phase power can be calculated as 3 × phase voltage × phase current × power factor, or as √3 × line voltage × line current × power factor. Both formulas give the same result when used correctly.
