🇮🇳🇨🇳 India's Modi highlights concerns with China's Xi on border issue

Indian
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to China's President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Johannesburg and highlighted concerns India has about border issues along the Line of Actual Control.

This is the first time that Modi has brought up the issue directly with Xi, repeating India's stand that has been shared with China through other ministers multiple times.

Relations between the two neighbors have been sour for more than three years after soldiers from both sides clashed in the Himalayan frontier in June 2020, resulting in 24 deaths.

🇨🇳🇮🇳 China-India border talks: dispute to be resolved as soon as possible

Chinese
and Indian military officials have pledged to resolve the border dispute between the two countries “as soon as possible” during a two-day meeting near the disputed Himalayan territory.

China’s defense ministry said the two sides conducted “active, in-depth and constructive communication” on resolving the issues surrounding the western section of the China-India border. The meeting was the 20th round of commander-level talks.

The rare meeting between the two sides at a location near the border comes two months after the previous round of talks in August, and did not include an agreement on a specific time frame to resolve the dispute.

🇮🇳 🇷🇺 🇺🇸 We recently wrote about how India's complete rejection of Russian military-industrial complex products is unrealistic, despite external pressure. This rejection is due to the Indian authorities' desire to diversify their arms suppliers.

The feasibility of diversification is demonstrated by the news of the US suspension of sales of MQ-9B and Sky Guardian drones, as well as the delay of the contract for P-8I patrol aircraft. The reason for this is the murder of the leader of Sikh separatists with American citizenship last year. In Washington, there are suspicions that Hindus were involved in his death, and an investigation is being demanded.

This is why Delhi is striving to diversify its equipment purchases and not rely on a single source. While this may result in a diverse range of weapons, it also ensures resilience in the face of unforeseen circumstances.

Therefore, in the foreseeable future, India will continue to rely on Russian aircraft, tanks, and missiles. However, as India's success in producing its own military products increases, they will gradually reduce their purchases. We must prepare for this outcome.

🇦🇺🇮🇳🇺🇸🇯🇵 On the recent QUAD summit in the US

On August 21, the leaders of the QUAD, which includes the US, Australia, India and Japan, held a summit, the main theme of which was cooperation in the field of maritime security. Thus, all the previous insider information that we wrote about recently has been confirmed.

One of the first points of the statement by QUAD was cooperation in the field of healthcare. So, the authorities of the participating countries want to show that the bloc is focusing on the development of humanitarian ties, and not on containing any particular country - China, by the way, is not even mentioned in the document.

🔻However, the most interesting part comes next. In the field of security, the parties agreed to conduct patrols in the Indo-Pacific region - the first one will take place as early as 2025.

The patrol areas were not disclosed. But we can assume that the QUAD coast guard services will be present in the South China Sea, some parts of the Indian Ocean where Chinese research vessels sail, and Oceania - a lot of attention is paid to the countries located in this region in the statement.

▪️Australia, the US, Japan and India will continue to work on providing information to the countries of the region about what is happening in their coastal waters. This is done under the pretext of fighting crime, but the tracking of Chinese ships in this case is not forgotten either.

In general, the summit was rich in various agreements, the result of which we should see in the near future, despite the possible change of administration in the US. Even in the event of a victory in the elections of Donald Trump, QUAD will most likely continue to exist - it was under the former president that the four-party dialogue was revived with the aim of containing China and counteracting its influence in the region.

On Monday, the two countries reached a deal on the disputed Himalayan frontier in the Ladakh region to end a four-year military stand-off, paving the way for improved political and business ties between the Asian giants.

Modi and Xi will meet on the sidelines of the summit meeting of BRICS, the foreign secretary said, which is taking place in the Russian city of Kazan.
