🇺🇦✈️ About the runway on the Dnipropetrovsk highway

The other day, footage appeared on the Ukrainian segment of the Internet with the take-off of the MiG-29 fighter of the Ukrainian Air Force from the Dnipropetrovsk highway.

🔻 Why from the highway?

With such measures, the command of the AFU seeks to additionally secure its aviation from strikes against its bases. This is not new to the enemy: on the first day of the SMO, a few hours before the start of the massive Russian attack, the planes left for alternate airfields. As a result, most of the launches fell "in milk".

And since the end of last year, the engineering units of the AFU, together with private construction companies, began to conduct reconnaissance for the deployment of tactical aviation field airfields.

🔻Where are these objects located?

The enemy is creating one of the improvised airfields on the E105 highway from Dnepropetrovsk to Kharkov. On the 16-kilometer section of the highway, construction work has begun to re-equip the road for a runway.

Coordinates:
–Beginning of the runway - 48,6411869, 35,1683306
–End of the runway - 48,7316392, 35,2532717

Along the site, fences and lawns were dismantled from the dividing strip. In their place, a solid roadbed was laid, and taxiways, aircraft parking spaces and ramps to them with PAG-18 reinforced concrete slabs were equipped parallel to the highway.

Coordinates:
–Parking №1 — 48,6728650, 35,2060411
-Parking №2 - 48,7227464, 35,2513517

🔻The tactics of the Ukrainian Air Force to change bases in the past has shown its effectiveness. In particular, from all Russian strikes on airfields, the AFU lost only a few of their aircraft.

The construction of improvised runways complicates the search for new aircraft stands from the satellite. However, not every road in eastern Ukraine is suitable for creating a network of such bases, which narrows the exploration area to a few major highways.

❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 ✈️ Regarding the missile strike on Feodosia

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the night launch of Storm Shadow cruise missiles in Feodosia resulted in damage to the Novocherkassk large landing ship. You can find more information here.

▪️ Contrary to the circulating statements on the Internet about the mass launch of "decoy missiles," this is not the case. There was a single launch from Odessa on the afternoon of December 26. However, Ukrainian formations in Crimea were studying the operation of air defense and electronic warfare systems throughout December, which suggests that preparations were made for a targeted strike.

▪️ Ukrainian Su-24Ms took off from Starokonstantinov (where the Russian Aerospace Forces are constantly operating) around 1 am and flew east.

▪️ In the Nikolaev region, planes patrolled in the air for about half an hour before launching from the outskirts of Snigirevka.

▪️ At the moment of launch, the Su-24M was detected by Russian radars, which transmitted target designation to air defense systems. These systems fired anti-aircraft missiles at the Su-24Ms in the Oktyabrsky area. The effectiveness of the destruction remains uncertain, as two Su-24Ms took off from Kanatovo shortly after.

🔻If the anti-aircraft gunners missed, the Ukrainian pilots landed at Kanatovo to refuel and subsequently flew back. They regularly perform such maneuvers, periodically changing the jumping area.

❗️The fact that the port of Feodosia was hit raises questions about possible negligence on the part of the Black Sea Fleet. Considering the previous situation with the small missile ship "Askold" in Kerch, it would not be surprising if certain officials neglected basic security measures.

There are enough pro-Ukrainian citizens in Crimea. The bay in Feodosia is easily visible from nearby residential buildings, so the Armed Forces of Ukraine probably did not have any problems with guidance (and it is still possible to address them, at least partially).

You can find a high-resolution map here and an English version here.

🇷🇺🇺🇦 ✈️ Ukrainian sources have shared images of a new Russian gliding guided bomb bearing the UMPB index. A notable feature was the inclusion of a jet engine on the device, a feature absent in conventional FABs with JDAM.

This innovation not only extends the reach of the ammunition for targeting objects further from the front line but also offers the option of mounting it on a 300-mm rocket from the Tornado-S - resulting in a domestic equivalent of the American GLSDB system.

Undoubtedly, the evident progress of the Russian industry in manufacturing high-precision aircraft bombs is remarkable. While initial plans were confined to paper until 2022, the encounter with the enemy's formidable air defense in the SMO necessitated rapid development and mass production of new armaments.

This development is naturally a cause for celebration.

🇺🇸✈️ Recently, the Associated Press, citing Pentagon representatives, reported that the U.S. Air Force has successfully tested artificial intelligence (AI) to control a combat aircraft for the first time: according to the publication, an F-16 conducted a training air combat mission independently.

This happened at Edwards Air Force Base in California, where test pilots are training neural networks on special simulators. At the same time, a pilot was still present in the fighter's cockpit, but he only monitored the process and collected data to improve the system.

As the journalists write, the Pentagon is serious about this and currently intends to equip up to 1,000 of its F-16s with artificial intelligence. The Americans plan to put the first such aircraft into service by 2028.

📌 This event vividly demonstrates the growing scale of AI use in the military sphere: if initially it was about its use in drones, information analysis and decision support, now the talk is gradually shifting to fighter aviation.

The advantages of such solutions are obvious, and it's not just about reducing the risk of losing precious flight personnel. After all, the introduction of AI can potentially "put into the air" a mass of old aircraft in storage and use them in combat formations, "crushing the enemy with sheer numbers".

Of course, this is not a matter of two or three years - the technologies are just beginning to be tested. But literally before our eyes, some plots of science fiction films are gradually becoming a reality.
