So-called champions of Taiwan "independence" are quiet after Seth Moulton threatened to blow up TMSC.

🌎🇹🇼🇨🇳 Central America parliament expels Taiwan, makes China permanent observer
The Central American Parliament on Monday voted to expel Taiwan after more than two decades as a permanent observer and replace it with China.
The six-nation parliament, known as Parlacen, met in the Nicaraguan capital Managua where local legislators proposed adding China. Taiwan's foreign ministry said it had decided to withdraw from Parlacen immediately in the interests of upholding "national dignity."
In a statement, Parlacen cited the United Nations' 1971 expulsion of Taiwan in favor of China, saying this deemed Taiwan to be a "province of mainland China, which disqualifies it from participating as an independent country".
Guatemala is the only Parlacen member that still recognizes Taiwan.

🇹🇼🇸🇿 Taiwan president leaves for visit to last African ally Eswatini
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen left on Tuesday for a visit to Eswatini, Taipei's last African ally, saying the island will continue to confidently engage with the world and show it is a force for good.
Tsai, speaking at the airport before leaving, said Eswatini was a "familiar old friend".
"Not only will Taiwan's footsteps to the world not stop, we will continue to move forward more firmly and self-confidently, so that the world can see Taiwan's steady force for good," she said.
Tsai will be in Eswatin from September 5-7 for the 55th anniversary of the country's independence, and also marking 55 years of bilateral relations.

🇹🇼🇨🇳🇺🇸 About Elections in Taiwan
The elections for the head of administration in Taiwan came to a close yesterday. Three candidates vied for the position - Lai Qingde from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Hou Yu from the Kuomintang, and Ke Wenzhe from the Taiwan People's Party.
The winner was Lai Qingde, who consistently led in social polls throughout the entire election race. It is notable that during the reign of his party colleague Tsai Ing-wen, relations with the People's Republic of China deteriorated significantly and there was an increase in military activity by the PLA around the island.
❗️However, the victory of a candidate does not necessarily mean an immediate start of hostilities.
In fact, Lai Qingde himself stated that there are no plans for a referendum on the independence of the island, which is considered the main concern for authorities in Beijing. He also expressed his intention to continue the policy of maintaining the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.
It is also worth considering the direction Taiwan may take in terms of international cooperation.
Based on the election rhetoric, it seems that relations with the United States will remain strong, and we can also anticipate improved cooperation with Japan and other American partners. All of this could impact relations with mainland China, including economically.
📌 On a side note, Taiwan also held elections for the main legislative body today, and none of the three political parties won a majority of seats.
As a result, important political decisions will still be made through negotiations with the opposition. The opposition holds different opinions from the DPP on various issues, including relations with mainland China.

🇨🇳🇺🇸🇹🇼 American Activity off the Coast of China
🔻In response to Chinese exercises in Taiwan, the Americans decided to do the same. However, they did not conduct any training sessions with Taiwanese troops. Instead, the US Armed Forces group became noticeably more active.
▪️ First, ships from the carrier strike group, led by the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson and three escort ships, arrived in the area east of the island of Taiwan.
▪️ On January 24, the destroyer John Finn sailed south through the Taiwan Strait for the first time this year. The Americans present this as a "freedom of navigation operation", but in a provocative manner.
▪️ The destroyer's passage was actively monitored by two Chinese drones, as well as coast guard boats. At the same time, a US Air Force RC-135 reconnaissance aircraft from the Japanese Kadena air base monitored the actions of the PLA aircraft.
▪️ The next day, from the same Kadena, an E-3C AWACS aircraft operated over the Bashi Strait. While it was working, F-50 Fokker planes were circling suspiciously over Taiwan. It is likely that the E-3C was tracking the location of PLA air defense systems.
🔻Given the activity of the Chinese in the South China Sea, tension in Southeast Asia has significantly increased. However, there are no prerequisites for escalation so far, as all these measures are standard actions in response to each other.
First, the Chinese made the Taiwanese nervous, then the Americans flexed their muscles, and today Chinese sources report high activity of aircraft and ships in the coastal waters of the East China Sea and in the Taiwan Strait. It appears that a new training has begun.

🇨🇳🇺🇸🇹🇼 In Southeast Asia, Americans and their partners are increasing military activity in preparation for upcoming exercises. A few days ago, four B-52H bombers flew to the Guam airbase.
Immediately after, they conducted a demonstration flight off the coast of Taiwan and also flew over the disputed islands in the South China Sea before returning. They repeated the same flight yesterday.
🔻The United States has increased activity due to the upcoming Cope North exercise, taking place from February 5 to February 23. The exercise involves dozens of aircraft from the US Air Force and Navy, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces, and the Australian Air Force.
The purpose of the exercise is to simulate a potential escalation in the region and a clash between the US and its allies with China over Taiwan and the disputed territories in the South China Sea.
Aviation units will practice launching mass strikes on China and simulating the Chinese response. Consequently, bomber and fighter flights near Taiwan will be repeated several times over the next two weeks.
❗️It will be interesting to see how the Chinese authorities react to this. Although the exercise is planned and conducted annually, its nature is quite provocative. Therefore, we can expect a similar response from China after the exercise concludes.

🇨🇳🇺🇸🇹🇼 The Americans have recently been marked by another provocative maneuver against China.
The U.S. Navy destroyer "Ralph Johnson" conducted a transit through the Taiwan Strait. To understand why the Chinese express their displeasure each time, one needs to recall the status of Taiwan.
🔻The Chinese consider it theirs and want to reclaim it. The Americans obviously support independence, so for them the Taiwan Strait is international waters, through which they allegedly have the right to move.
Such actions by the U.S. Navy occur with enviable regularity, on average twice a year. And each time it follows the same scenario: the destroyer sails through the strait, and the PLA's reaction is monitored by an RC-135.
This time, the Chinese side sent J-16 fighters to defend the airspace, and an KJ-500 early warning aircraft to track the ship and reconnaissance plane.
Although this raises the tension between the countries, it is all routine. So when you see "breaking news" that the Americans are provoking China, you can safely ignore it.

🇨🇳🇹🇼 On the "Joint Sword - 2024B" exercises
For the residents of Taiwan, this morning began with unpleasant news: the Chinese armed forces announced the holding of the "Joint Sword - 2024B" exercises in the waters around the island.
▪️The maneuvers involve the ground, naval, air and missile forces of the Chinese army, including the aircraft carrier strike group led by the aircraft carrier "Liaoning". The main goal of the exercises is to test the capabilities for conducting joint operations of the troops of the Eastern Theater Command of the PLA.
During the exercises, combat patrolling of the sea and air space, blockades of key ports and areas of Taiwan, as well as strikes on naval and ground targets are being practiced.
The main prerequisite for the exercises and, possibly, the reason for their start was the speech of the Taiwanese leader Lai Qingde during the celebrations dedicated to the 113th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China. And although most observers note that Lai's speech was not as provocative compared to the inauguration speech in May 2024, this did not prevent the Chinese authorities from demonstrating their position through the exercises.
🔻By the way, after the inauguration of the Taiwanese leader, the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) also conducted exercises called "Joint Sword - 2024A". Thus, these actions confirm the forecasts about a series of exercises, each of which will be timed to coincide with certain actions of the Taiwanese leader Lai Qingde, no matter how loud they may be.
It is also important to note that the Chinese Coast Guard is participating in the exercises. For the first time, ships of the department took part in the exercises to surround Taiwan in May 2024 - then they were operating near the islands controlled by the Taiwanese administration. This time, the Chinese Coast Guard is already covering the waters around the island.
📌 This gives a small hint of how the Chinese authorities will put pressure on the island's administration, implementing plans for reunification. One of the main scenarios, the "isolation" of Taiwan, implies the use of the Chinese Coast Guard to inspect ships heading to local ports and cut the island off from key trade flows.
And although news reports mention that the exercises are a dress rehearsal for the start of hostilities in the Taiwan Strait, there are no obvious prerequisites for war. Moreover, China has much more flexible tools to put pressure on the Taiwanese leadership, such as economic blockade and the aforementioned "isolation".
