๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Russia, Algeria tighten "strategic" ties

President Vladimir Putin and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune pledged to deepen their two countries' "strategic partnership" during Tebboune three-day visit to Russia.

"Algeria is a key partner for us in the Arab world and in Africa," Putin said, adding Russia wanted to ramp up energy and military ties.

The two leaders signed a declaration on "deep strategic partnership", among other agreements.

"Our ties never changed," Tebboune said. "Algeria has always supported Russia. We must maintain our independence," Tebboune said, adding Russia has been providing his North African country with weapons to help it "maintain our independence in these difficult circumstances."

Tebboune also said his country would like to join BRICS in the near future in order to free the economy "from certain pressure"

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿงฑ Algeria's President not interested in joining BRICS in current format

Algeria is no longer interested in joining the BRICS economic alliance in its current format, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said on Thursday.

"The Algerian economy is highly dynamic, and the country's income from the non-oil sector have exceeded $8 billion, an unprecedented figure since Algeria's independence," Algerian President said.

"BRICS, in its current format, is not of interest to Algeria anymore," he said. "The issue of the BRICS group is completely off the table."

Previously, Algeria officially submitted an application to join the BRICS organization in late July, presenting a request to become a shareholder in the group's bank with an initial $1.5 billion buy-in.

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ธ Algeria condemned 'brutal' Israeli airstrikes on Gaza

Algeria on Saturday condemned Israeli airstrikes on Gaza that were launched after an offensive by Hamas, describing the attacks as "blatant violation of all international laws."

"Algeria strongly condemns the brutal air strikes by the Zionist occupation forces in the Gaza Strip, and which caused many casualties, including children and women," the Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry reiterated the country's "full solidarity with the Palestinian people," and called on the international community, including the UN Security Council, "to take an urgent action to end the repeated and systematic criminal attacks."

Hamas launched Operation Al Aqsa Flood, saying its surprise, multifront attack was in response to the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and increased settler violence.

The Israeli army, in turn, said it initiated Operation Swords of Iron in Gaza Strip, a "large-scale operation to defend Israeli civilians against the combined attack."

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ Algeriaโ€™s army chief of staff visits China, seeks to diversify sources of military supplies

The Chief of Staff of the Algerian Army, Lieutenant General Said Chengriha, arrived in the Chinese capital, Beijing, for an official visit at the head of a military delegation.

He was received by Army General Liu Zhenli, Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China. He also met with several companies representatives.

The visit of Chengriha to China came amid an Algerian army push for the diversification of its sources of armament in order to wean itself from dependence on Russia.

The West voiced strong reservations about Algeria proving Russia with a strong infusion of cash in exchange of weapons. Algeria is also opening up to new markets, as Moscow is increasingly unable to meet demand for arms supplies when the Algerian defence sector is expected to rise.

๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฟ Algeria marks 70th anniversary of start of revolt against French rule

A military parade was held in Algiers on Friday to mark 70 years since the start of the Algerian revolution. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune took part in the parade, saluting to cheering crowds from a tank before presiding over the ceremony.

On November 1, 1954, Algeriaโ€™s National Liberation Front attacked French targets in Algeria, setting off the Algerian War which led to the countryโ€™s independence from France.

The country officially declared independence on July 5, 1962, after a brutal seven-year war that ended 132 years of colonial rule.

The war, which Algerian officials say killed around 1.5 million people, remains a point of tension in relations between Algeria and France.

The anniversary of the revolution is often used as an occasion to offer pardons.

Algerian journalist Ihsane El Kadi, a journalist who was a key voice during the countryโ€™s 2019 pro-democracy protests, was released from prison on Thursday evening along with eight others who were imprisoned after criticizing the state.
