The US Ambassador in Bogota attacked President Gustavo Petro for “anti-semitism” on Twitter:

Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s continued rhetoric normalizes anti-Semitism. We cannot accept this. We cannot tolerate this. We must condemn these harmful narratives

Petro replied as follows:

I am not anti-Semitic, do not confuse and respect. I am not anti-Jewish, I believe in freedom of religion and if I had been born in that era I would have given my life in armed resistance against the Nazis. But I believe in the freedom that international law generates, the one that was built after the defeat of Hitler by the Americans and Soviets and by all the peoples of the world: humanity.
