The Iraqi government is carrying out executions of prisoners who were not sentenced to death. Some of them were exonerated of “terror” accusations, and some were set to be released next week, all with a bullet to the head in identity-based assassinations.
Many families were surprised to receive letters asking them to bring a blanket to collect their son’s bodies.
These executions, carried out without trial and outside the law, do not target drug dealers or convicted criminals, but rather those accused of “terrorism” from a specific community in Iraq.
The vast majority of those targeted in these executions are from the provinces of Al-Anbar, Salah al-Din, Mosul, and Diyala.
