UK trial:
Two persons were on trial for alleged criminal damage arising out of a six-day rooftop occupation of a factory manufacturing drones.
The factory was part-owned by Elbit UK, a subsidiary of Israelβs largest arms company. The Defendants believed that the factory manufactured drones that were to be exported to Israel for use in the OPT.
The defendants argued that, on the facts as they believed them to be, the activity of the factory amounted to a war crime and that their actions were necessary and proportionate to stop the loss of life and to protect property at immediate risk of drone bombardment in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT).
Following extensive legal argument over several days on the scope of defences, the trial Judge directed the jury to consider the common law defence of Necessity and the statutory defence of Protection of Property under Section 5(2)(b) of the Criminal Damage Act 1971.
The defendants were both acquitted.

The Cradle:
The Israeli government spent at least $2 million on an online influence campaign that used hundreds of fake social media accounts and at least three fake English-language news sites featuring pro-Israel articles urging US lawmakers to fund Israel's genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, according to an investigation by the New York Times (NYT).
Earlier this year, an investigation by Israeli media watchdog group Fake Reporter revealed the existence of the online influence campaign. However, Wednesday's report from the NYT is the first confirmation that the Israeli government bankrolled the operation.
According to officials, the campaign generated many posts using the artificial intelligence-powered chatbot ChatGPT and was managed by Israeli political marketing firm Stoic.
Israelβs Ministry of Diaspora Affairs denied involvement in the influence campaign and claimed no connection to Stoic.
We now know why all those posts looked and felt the same. In fact, they WERE.
