McDonald's Chief Financial Officer, Ian Borden, said today that international sales will decline successively in the current quarter as a result of the aggression on Gaza and weak demand in China, which led to the company's shares falling 2 percent in early trading.

Borden said at the UBS Global Consumer and Retail Conference that first-quarter comparable sales in McDonald's licensed international development markets segment would be "slightly lower" than the previous three-month period.

The company in February fell short of widely held Wall Street estimates for fourth-quarter sales in the sector, partly due to protests and boycotts against many Western brands over their pro-Israel stance.

“We continue to deal with the effects of war in the Middle East,” Borden said. But we are also seeing what I would call a slow start in China this year.” (Reuters)
