Family sources said Jordanian authorities arrested academic and novelist Ayman Al-Atoum late Friday night without stating the reason. Reports said he was detained while returning to his home in Amman from Irbid, driving with his wife and mother, who were left on the street late at night after his arrest.
The arrest was reportedly carried out under the “Cybercrimes Law,” while no official statement has been issued. Al-Atoum is a leading Jordanian literary figure and the author of several notable novels, including My Prison Companion, They Hear Its Whisper, and The Discourse of the Soldiers, after whose publication he was arrested.
