Inspired by our friend SPTHvx, let's review a collection of malware author interviews from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s.

In these interviews, the interviewer asked "what do you think the future of malware looks like?".

Let's open a time capsule on a Saturday night =D

1. Urnst Kouch, Summer 1993

He predicts the future will hold 'cramming advanced stealth, tunneling, and multi-partitism' into malware.

2. Qark/VLAD, December 1995

He predicts Windows 95 will have polymorphic engines with layers and layers of encryption.

3. Crom-Cruach/Trident, 1995

He predicts PowerPC will be interesting. Hahahaha

4. MrSandman/29a, April 1997

MrSandman believes Bill Gates will bring Windows to a majority of users. He thinks malicious webpages and interpreter languages (such as Java) will be the new threat.

5. Q the Misanthrope/VLAD, July 1998.

Q the Misanthrope predicts e-mails with embedded macros will be a huge problem. He thinks Windows will be filled with holes and malware authors will abuse all of them.

6. Pockets, in late 1998

He predicts that cross-platform malware will be a new and emerging threat.

7. LovingGod, March 1999

He predicts internet worms and artificial intelligence will have more power. He predicts malware will turn into weapons.

8. Foxz/NMVT, May 1999

Although he loves coding in ASM, he believes that malicious HTML pages will be common in the future.

9. Nightmare Joker, May 1999

He believes the future will be bright for malicious VBScript and Java malware writers.

10. doxtorL, August 2000.

He believes macro malware will disappear because Microsoft suggests they can be easily stopped.

Hahahahahahahahaha. 23 years later and it isn't even close to stopping.

11. MentalDriller/29a, March 2002

MentalDriller predicts worms and self-spreading e-mail worms will be a problem.

12. alcopaul/rRlf, March 2002

He predicts SMS worms will be a thing in the future.

13. vx_herm1t November 2007

He predicts IoT devices i.e. "smart devices" will be vulnerable.

14. hh86, December 2010

She believes malware targeting Industrial Control Systems and critical infrastructure will become a much larger problem.

Excellent prediction!
