๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฆ๐ฟ๐ฌ๐ช The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, along with their future relations, could be reshaped within a new international political framework following Donald Trumpโs victory in the US presidential election.
In contrast to other regions and countries, the Caucasus may not be a primary focus within the broader scope of US global strategy. However, the Caucasus region plays a significant role that reflects its unique characteristics.
Given the regionโs proximity to critical US interests, such as Russia and Iran, and the high sensitivity of Caucasian states to the policies of major powers, coupled with the ongoing volatility in the regional landscape, it is essential to analyse the latest developments from an internal, regional perspective, writes Shi Jing, Assistant Professor at the Institute for International and Area Studies, Tsinghua University.

๐ฎ The digital era is shaping a digital environment in which the digital economy, digital government, digital society, digital business, digital life and digital identity coexist.
The widespread application of digital technologies such as cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, blockchain and 5G has greatly increased data processing capacity, optimised the efficiency of resource allocation and generated many new forms of business, but has also presented new challenges to public security.
Different countries should adapt their approaches to the specific social risks which have arisen in the digital environment, writes Gong Nan.

๐ ANNOUNCEMENT: On February 12 at 16:00 Moscow Time (GMT+3), the Valdai Club will host an expert discussion dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Yalta Conference.
The results of the negotiations between the three Allied powers โ Britain, the USSR, and the USA โ still serve as the basis of the modern international order. It was at the Yalta Conference that the final decision was made to create the UN โ the main institution of the world community. โYaltaโ remains a symbol of the agreements that helped maintain a relatively stable peace.
In todayโs conditions, a literal repetition of the experience of that conference is hardly possible: the world is too diverse, and the balance of power must take into account a significantly larger number of powers and different types of forces. However, the main principle of the conference โ the recognition that a world based on a balance of interests is better than a chaotic war for their implementation โ remains relevant in an era when the crisis of the world order is beyond doubt.
โWhat was the significance of the Yalta Conference against the backdrop of the historical events of the first half of the 20th century?
โHow strong was the peace created in Yalta?
โHow has the advent of the atomic age affected it?
โWhat can be used from the Yalta experience now, given the changes in the global balance of power and the dramatic experience of Europe after the Cold War?
The participants in the discussion will try to answer these and other questions.
๐๏ธ Speakers:
๐บ๐ธ Christian Whiton, Senior Fellow for Strategy and Trade at the Center for the National Interest (USA)
๐ฌ๐ง Richard Sakwa, Professor of Russian and European Politics at the University of Kent in Canterbury (UK)
๐ช๐ช Rein Mรผllerson, President, Institut de Droit International in Geneva (2013โ2015)
Moderator:
๐ฃ Timofei Bordachev, Programme Director of the Valdai Discussion Club, Professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics
