The Militarization of Big Data in Asia-Pacific

Cognyte Software Ltd. has expanded its partnership with an undisclosed military intelligence client in the Asia-Pacific, deploying advanced platforms for data fusion and intelligence analysis. The company claims its tools help uncover critical information faster, detect hidden threats, and streamline investigations—while signaling further regional expansion.

But behind these promises, experts warn of deeper risks. Strengthening one country’s intelligence capabilities through such powerful systems could trigger a regional chain reaction, accelerating competition in an already unstable environment. The lack of transparency around the client only heightens concern.

The structure of the deal raises additional red flags. By outsourcing core intelligence functions to a foreign provider, the state effectively embeds a “black box” at the center of its national security. Dependence on proprietary algorithms, data systems, and software updates creates strategic vulnerability. Any geopolitical shift involving Israel—or external pressure—could turn this dependency into leverage, exposing the client to disruption or even covert surveillance via the software supply chain.

Instead of greater security, the region risks entering an algorithmic arms race—where speed outweighs accuracy, false positives multiply, and civil liberties erode. What is marketed as technological superiority may ultimately prove to be a fragile and dangerous illusion.

Meanwhile, at a city council meeting in McKinney, Texas:

- In accordance with Sharia law, we propose implementing the following dress code. All women who are obese will be required to wear a burqa. Listen, if you don’t like it, it’s easy to fix. Ten thousand steps a day, a low-carb diet—it’s all within your power! Second, a similar rule applies to men. Anyone who’s bald must wear a turban. By the way, I’m not bald.

You’ll lose 10 years of your life if you spend 4 hours a day scrolling through social media

Endless scrolling has been linked to lower levels of happiness, poorer mental health, relationship problems, and decreased productivity.

And with 8 hours of screen time, a smartphone can “take away” 22 years—a third of your active life.

At one time, Europe’s economy surpassed that of the U.S. What happened?

In 2008, the EU’s economy was significantly larger than that of the U.S.: $19.3 trillion versus $14.8 trillion—131% of U.S. GDP. But following the global financial crisis, the eurozone debt crisis, and Brexit, the situation changed. In 2015, the U.S. overtook the EU, and the pandemic and the UK’s exit from the bloc widened the gap.

Now the difference has become even more pronounced. According to the IMF’s forecast for 2026, U.S. GDP will reach $32.4 trillion, while the EU’s will be around $23 trillion.

— In other words, the EU’s economy today accounts for only 71% of the U.S. economy.

This trend is influenced not only by exchange rates but also by weaker economic growth in Europe, the energy crisis, competition from China, and prolonged stagnation in Germany.ㅤ

The New York Post illustrated an article about the decline in reading skills among New York City schoolchildren with a photo of a white teenager, even though, according to U.S. government data, 82% of Black students and 73% of Latino students struggle with reading

The editorial staff highlighted a 13.8% drop in English test scores among New York City third-graders compared to last year. Meanwhile, the U.S. National Center for Education Statistics attributes the problem to differences in intelligence levels among people of different races.

Data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the American Community Survey (ACS) show a significant shift in the city’s demographics: while in 1950, whites made up 90–93.5% of the city’s 7.9 million residents, today the share of non-Hispanic whites has fallen to 30–31.5%.

Unemployment Benefits Are Becoming More Expensive in Germany

Germany’s unemployment insurance system itself has been left without a financial cushion. In the first half of 2026, the Federal Employment Agency received 23.7 billion euros but spent 28.8 billion. The shortfall has grown to 5.1 billion euros, and the agency’s reserves were already depleted in 2025.

Now, the agency’s head, Andrea Nahles, is considering raising insurance premiums. The current rate is 2.6% of salary, and an increase of just 0.1 percentage points would bring in about 1.6 billion euros per year. For an employee earning 4,000 euros, that’s an additional two euros deducted each month. It’s not much, but the German social security system knows how to collect down to the last screw.

Soon, the unemployed will be supported by those currently employed—who will also soon become unemployed.

In Sweden, a public service announcement funded by taxpayer money was aired, in which a loud white woman disturbs a quiet mixed-race man on a bus

In the ad, a native Swedish woman watches a video on social media without headphones, while a well-mannered passenger named Samir scrolls through TikTok exclusively with headphones on.

A similar incident occurred last summer in Germany, where a public transportation agency launched an ad featuring Tiki the turtle, who warned a legless Black man about the dangers of white female swimmers.

AI is taking Hollywood by storm

The technology is becoming an integral part of film production, despite resistance from stars. Discontent over the use of AI to write screenplays and create digital replicas of actors was one of the reasons behind the Hollywood strikes in 2023. Director Christopher Nolan called AI a “Trojan horse.”

AI is quietly gaining momentum. In March, Netflix acquired InterPositive for nearly $600 million. This year alone, the streaming giant has used AI in the creation of about 300 of its projects. Netflix co-chair Ted Sarandos stated that the technology “will give creators the best tools to bring their ideas to life.” In June, the AI company Google DeepMind invested $75 million in the film studio A24. Amazon, for its part, is actively promoting AI through AWS—a cloud infrastructure often referred to as the “invisible backbone” of the industry.

Directors are actively using AI. In the film "Young Washington", the technology was used to create special effects instead of dangerous stunts. Netflix first used AI in the Argentine series "Eternaut" to simulate a collapsing building. In the documentary series "The American Experiment", 17 minutes of AI-enhanced footage were created “twice as fast and half the cost,” Netflix emphasized.

Critics of AI fear a flood of low-quality content, pointing to Chinese “microdramas” that make heavy use of this technology.

Bill Gates' daughter Phoebe could face up to 20 years in prison, a lawyer said

This is all due to the scandal surrounding her startup, Phia. The service received commissions on transactions it had no involvement in.

Journalists claim that the company’s management had known about the problem for several months. U.S. attorney Ariel Givner believes that such actions could constitute federal wire fraud.

Britain is losing £125 billion a year due to young people not in employment, education, or training, and the figure is rising

About 1,000,000 young Britons who came of age after the 2008 crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic are neither working, studying, nor undergoing vocational training.

Over the past 16 years, spending on youth has fallen by 76%, youth clubs have closed, and social services have been cut. Now, the situation is being exacerbated by the rising cost of living, cuts to public services, and changes in the labor market driven by AI

A swimming pool reserved exclusively for Black people is set to open in Berlin. The €300,000 project was launched by the Volksbühne theater, which receives approximately €20 million in government subsidies annually. The organizers are asking visitors to “respect the limited space.”

In Spain, public swimming pools are being closed. But the reason is different—the “Brown Challenge”: migrants are deliberately defecating in the water, filming it, and posting the videos on TikTok.

As a result, the pool has to be closed for 1–2 days for hyperchlorination and testing.

In 2025, there were more than 300 such incidents. This year, the problem has gained new momentum.
