Germany Does Not Have the Funds to Subsidize Electricity

This was stated by Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, commenting on Chancellor Merz’s proposal to provide such subsidies to households and businesses. The fact is that there really are no additional funds available (despite the fact that tax and fee revenues exceed last year’s figures), and implementing this initiative would require exceeding the government’s established public debt threshold.

At the same time, Klingbeil is facing pressure from the heads of the federal states, including from within his own party: Manuela Schwesig, the head of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, believes that the subsidies are “absolutely necessary.” However, if this plan were implemented, Germany’s budget deficit in 2028 would exceed 22 billion euros.

Italy Approves the 2027 Budget

As Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni noted, the budget includes increases in corporate income taxes for a number of industries (in particular, banks and insurance companies, as well as the energy sector). These measures were adopted against the backdrop of a growing budget deficit, which, while not as high as France’s, exceeds the EU’s 3% target threshold.

In addition, there are plans to increase spending on defense and climate change mitigation: as part of the latter, climate-control systems are to be installed in all social, educational, and sports facilities. Personal income taxes will also rise: those earning more than 50,000 euros a year will pay 43% of their income.

As usual, it is not those who caused the crisis who are paying for it.

A sharp increase in drug overdoses has been observed in Paris

According to data from the city prosecutor’s office, while 30 residents of the French capital died from drug overdose in all of 2025, the number has already doubled in the first three quarters of this year. Several toxicological examinations are still underway, so this number may rise further in the coming days.

Law enforcement officials note that in half of these cases, cocaine mixed with synthetic drugs was involved: this dangerous concoction is often used at parties for “chemsex,” that is, sexual activity while under the influence of drugs. The Pentagon plans to create an extensive network of agents who will operate under deep cover to wage economic warfare against China and other U.S. rivals

The Washington Post reported on the department’s plans, citing six sources familiar with the initiative.

Under the plan, American agents will pose as businesspeople or employees of private companies and carefully conceal their ties to the U.S. government. Tom Rakusan, a former CIA officer with 39 years of experience, is in charge of implementing the program. He currently serves as senior advisor to Deputy Secretary of Defense Steve Feinberg. The project currently exists only on paper and has not yet been launched.
