Three years into Israel's genocidal war on Palestine's Gaza and almost every part of daily life on the besieged enclave has been transformed. Families who once lived in homes now sleep in tents. Parents search for food and carry water across displacement camps. Children study in makeshift classrooms while families grieve those they have lost.

As Israel's onslaught enters its fourth, Palestinians tell us what it means to keep living when shelter, food, water, education and even safety have become a daily struggle.

Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate once proudly displayed the Nazi party’s flag. In the years that followed, Nazi Germany carried out the Holocaust, persecuting European Jews and other minorities during World War II.

Eighty-five years later, the Israeli flag has been projected onto the same landmark in a show of solidarity with Israel, despite the country’s genocidal war on Palestine’s Gaza for the past three years, killing upwards of 75,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023.

"It’s terrible and horrifying, in my view, a great desecration of God's name, that the people of Israel, who are God's people, established a state of destruction and heresy. This is a great lesson we must learn."

Footage released by Israel's Channel 12 showing 96-year-old Ashkenazi Haredi community leader Rabbi Dov Lando criticising Zionism and the Israeli military has sparked a major crisis in Israeli politics. Lando is the spiritual leader of Degel HaTorah, a pillar of Netanyahu’s coalition, which has seen a sharp rupture in recent times over the ultra-Orthodox military draft.

Ultra-Orthodox Jewish protesters, known as Haredim, blocked roads in West Jerusalem on October 8, lying on the ground as Israeli police intervened.
The demonstrators were protesting the lack of legislation exempting students at Jewish religious schools, known as yeshivas, from mandatory military service, as well as the detention of students on grounds of draft evasion.
Some Haredim hold pacifist political views, while others believe that Jewish religious tradition forbids military service.

From Hollywood and the Grammys to Venice and the streets of London, many artists are refusing to stay silent on Palestine. Since Israel launched its annihilatory war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, these figures have condemned Israel’s genocide, demanded an end to the killing, raised money for Palestinians, backed cultural boycotts and risked their careers to speak out. And in 2026, as Palestinians continue to face Israeli oppression and occupation, these global voices remain vociferous.

French police launched full-force baton charges followed by heavy volleys of tear gas against high school student demonstrators in Paris's Bastille Square on October 8, as tensions remained high amid ongoing student protests across the country. Human rights organisations have accused French authorities of using disproportionate force against protesters, many of whom are minors and high school students. A 15-year-old student lost his hand when a stun grenade exploded, a 16-year-old student was permanently blinded in one eye, and a police officer was formally charged after a young protester near Paris suffered a double jaw fracture from being struck by a police projectile. More than 6,600 people — overwhelmingly under the age of 18 — have been arrested or detained since the unrest began.
