Iraq’s top Muslim Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali al-Sistani - a source of emulation for tens of millions of Shias in Iraq and around the world - has issued a statement strongly condemning the ongoing US-Israeli war on Iran.

The statement was read during the Eid al-Fitr prayers held at holy Shia shrines in the Iraqi cities of Karbala and Kadhimiya on Saturday. Ayatollah Sistani said that the flames of fire were still raging over homes in Iran and Lebanon while the two Muslim countries were under military aggression.

Trump added in a post ‌on his Truth Social platform that the U.S. and Iran had had “VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE” conversations over the past two days about a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST”.

Twenty-one-month-old Jawad Abu Nassar sustained multiple injuries after being tortured by Israeli forces east of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, according to reports and medical findings. Jawad and his father, Osman Abu Nassar, were out purchasing necessities when Israeli forces compelled Osman to go to a checkpoint. He was then stripped of his clothes, while his son was tortured in front of him in an attempt to pressure him into making confessions. Medical reports indicate that the child suffered severe injuries after having cigarettes extinguished on his leg, being stabbed, and having an iron nail inserted into his leg.

After approximately ten hours, the child was returned to his family through the Red Cross at the Maghazi market while the father remains in detention. The family has appealed to international organizations to intervene for the father’s release and to ensure that the child continues to receive medical treatment.

Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s finance minister, said on Monday that the war in Lebanon should end with “radical change,” calling for the creation of a “sterile security cordon” deep inside Lebanese territory.
