Microsoft released a security update for Windows 11, KB5068861, which made a Snapdragon Dev Kit based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite ARM64 processor not usable. Developer Jason Eckert reported that the device, which had functioned reliably since October 2024, began failing after the update installation attempts in December 2025. Standard troubleshooting methods, including cache clearing and manual update installation, proved ineffective.
Subsequent reboots led to repeated system restarts, profile corruption, and eventual boot failure. Eckert accessed UEFI settings, performed a clean Windows 11 ARM64 installation, and attempted to load network drivers, but the system froze permanently during setup.
Hardware checks confirmed the SSD and peripherals were functional. Qualcomm discontinued the Dev Kit and its support, leaving no official firmware recovery tool. Eckert noted the platform itself remained stable until the update, but the lack of recovery options made the failure irreversible.
