Google just killed the 30% Play Store “app tax.”

Developers will soon pay 20% or less for most in-app purchases (and 10% for subscriptions), down from the long-criticized 30% cut - following the long antitrust battle between Google and Epic Games.

The change will roll out starting June 2026 in the US, UK & EU, with a global rollout planned by 2027. Google will also allow alternative billing systems and easier installation of third-party app stores on Android.

Accenture, the company that acquired Speedtest (and Downdetector) in a $1.2 billion deal, has faced repeated data security issues and ethical scrutiny.

- 2021: LockBit ransomware stole 6+ TB of proprietary data; $ 50M ransom ignored, some files leaked.
- 2017: Four public AWS S3 buckets exposed 137 GB, including plaintext API keys, credentials, and decryption keys.
- 2024: Hacker claimed leak of 32,800+ employee records; Accenture confirmed only three were valid, blamed third-party source.

The firm also partners on controversial government biometric, AI surveillance, and predictive policing projects.

Meta will allow rival AI chatbots on WhatsApp in Europe, but only for a fee.

Third-party providers will pay per-message charges for non-template responses, while Meta's own AI remains unrestricted.

This follows EU antitrust pressure and is a 12-month temporary measure.
