Chevron CEO Mike Wirth discussed the situation with Trump administration officials this week, which was followed by a warning to Ukraine. The company owns a 15% stake in the CPC pipeline and a 50% stake in Kazakhstan's Tengiz oil field, one of its most productive assets.

A U.S. official said the administration views the CPC as a critical source of Kazakhstan-origin oil for Europe and an important alternative to Russian energy supplies.
