The agreement covers language, education, culture, and political representation. Magyar said the deal was achieved after several weeks of intensive negotiations involving experts, churches, and organizations representing the Hungarian community.

“We have reached a comprehensive agreement with Ukraine on expanding the language, educational, cultural, and political rights of the 100,000-strong Hungarian minority,” Magyar said, adding that Kyiv has committed to incorporating the measures into Ukrainian law and reflecting them in its EU-related reform plans.

Magyar described the agreement as a breakthrough that his predecessor, Viktor Orbán, “was unable to do in 10 years.”

In return, Hungary supports opening the first accession negotiation cluster for Ukraine with the European Union, removing the major obstacle that had delayed Kyiv’s membership talks for more than two years.
