🇮🇩❗️ — In recent days, protests erupted across Indonesia over parliament members’ lavish allowances, austerity measures, rising living costs, and corruption. Authorities deployed thousands of police, used tear gas and water cannons, and blocked streets near the parliamentary complex.

➡️ Workers demanded higher wages, an end to job outsourcing, higher tax-free thresholds, a new labor law, and stronger anti-corruption measures, warning of potential nationwide strikes. Demonstrators also voiced opposition to the military’s increasing role in civilian affairs.

➡️ Protests flared again today after the death of Affan Kurniawan when police officers in a Brimob tactical vehicle ran over him during a labor demonstration in front of the Indonesian Parliament building (DPR). In Jakarta, students clashed with police, set vehicles on fire, and breached government gates, while security forces formed barricades and used tear gas.

➡️ Demonstrations spread to other cities, including Surabaya, Pontianak, and Makassar, with fires, roadblocks, and attacks on government buildings reported. Protesters called for police accountability, social reforms, and government action on jobs and legislation.
