Gun camera footage from 1st Lt. L.K. Carson of the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group, during an attack on a Luftwaffe Messerschmitt Me-410 on 30 May 1944. Carson was flying a North American P-51B Mustang during the engagement.
Mounted inside Allied fighters, gun cameras recorded split second moments of aerial combat across Europe, providing intelligence analysts with evidence of hits, tactics, and aerial victories while preserving some of the most dramatic firsthand footage of the air war.
The heavily armed Me-410 “Hornisse” was designed as a fast destroyer and bomber escort, but by 1944 it faced increasingly dangerous skies dominated by long range Allied escort fighters.
