You could do Norse paganism if you didn’t know Odin existed, or Platonism if you didn’t know of the One, but you wouldn’t quite know what you were doing.
You could give the gods their due offerings, but you would be miles away from a proper orientation within the larger system.

In the same way, if you don’t know who Fintan/Finn is or who Trefuilngid/Breoghan is, you can give the gods their offerings, contact them. You can do Celtic Paganism. But you don't fully know what you're doing, you don’t know whose house you are in.

This is the tragedy of the superficiality with which Celtic myth has been read. The material is all there, Fintan receives the divisions and seeds of Ireland from Trefuilngid for all to see, but the average Celtic pagan treats Finn and Trefuilngid/Breoghan as if they can be set aside, thereby setting aside the founding Intellect and sovereign Power that are the engine and axis of the tradition.

This neglect of the fundamental ruling deities will obviously be the hamstringing of the potential of Celtic paganism as long as it continues, and is one of the main reasons Celtic paganism seems to lack reality to outside observers.

We Celts should be proud. We know of the Birdlike, nor did we forget.

Gylfi, who takes a name of Odin (Gangleri), may be equivalent to Fintan from the Settling of the Manor of Tara story, considering how Fintan/Finn is the usual parallel of Odin as a whole.

This suggests that Gylfaginning isn’t a late invention, that Odin-Third may be equivalent to Trefuilngid Tre-eochair (“Triple Bearer Three-Edged”) who teaches Fintan the divisions of Ireland, which is the cosmic microcosm.

Because Trefuilngid is the Absolute, Odin-Third may = the Absolute.

This may be why Trefuilngid is called “mail-finn,” white prince, tying him to the name of Fintan similar to how Odin-Third and Gylfi are tied by their names like higher and lower aspects of one god.

As Fintan tells his people the story of Trefuilngid and repeats the divisions he had taught him, so Gylfi tells the people and gods the words of the triple Odin and they name the places of the realm after the names told to Gylfi.

Both stories are about the shaping Mind-god receiving the pattern of the cosmos from his higher self, the personified absolute deity, in a triple form and name.

The entire theme of this story is that the pattern received is always received through a veil of illusion, a screen separating the divine Mind (Gylfi/Fintan) from the absolute in-itself. Trefuilngid literally wears a shining veil.

The ancients understood this simple paradox which is why Gylfi sees his interaction with the triple Odin through sjónhverfingar (sight tricks). The Absolute can’t be seen directly in-itself by the Mind within the cosmos. Its image is already a mediated thing, an eye trick that bears a pattern of the cosmos.

This is the Norse maya in action, through which the whole cosmology is related to Gylfi who retells it again to name and so shape his own realm on the pattern he learned.

Things you often hear like “Snorri invented all of the frame material” are just more of this eye-trick, naked assumptions without proof.

The basic story is shared with the Gaels, it is one of the central arteries of the esoteric mythos in both traditions.

The Gaels called this veil of illusion the Great Ignorance, Alldui, who intervenes between the Absolute and the gods of the cosmos.

If I'm right about Gylfi, then everyone looking for the Platonic Demiurge moment in Norse myth is looking in the wrong places.

As often happens with the most esoteric myths, this moment has been placed in a euhemerized frame, a mundane disguise: as if this happened last Tuesday,
when in reality Gylfi is given a name of Odin, Gangleri, and so is Odin as the Divine Demiurgic Nous, and the triple Odin who speaks to him is the Intelligible content (the Paradigm) coming through the screen of his mind from, and as the image of, the Absolute.

Gylfi repeating that content forms the micro-cosmos,
the names Gylfi was told become the names of all of the things and the gods within Gylfi's world and so give them shape, like with the divisions and seeds of Ireland shown to Fintan that he repeats to divide and name Ireland, which is the symbolic mirco-cosmos of the world as a whole.
