PRACTICE & INTERSHIP
Whatโs the difference?
Practice:
โ๏ธ Goals and objectives determined by the program of practice
โ๏ธ Developed in accordance with the direction and profile of training
Internship:
โ๏ธ Do assignments set by the program of your supervisor in the company
โ๏ธ Tasks are related to professional areas
๐น Examples:
- Drawing up plans
- Analytics
- Working with clients
- Preparing reports
- Administrative works
So whatโs the main difference?
๐ The practice is oriented on your program of studies, while the internship is based on a more corporate profile, where you do tasks that the company requires you to do, regardless if they coincide with your current career or not.
๐น During your time at MGIMO, you will have to do your practices, and one of those will have to be based on your thesis topic. You can also opt in to do an internship independently at the company you are wishing to work for in the future.
๐ You can find more information at the job board of MGIMO at: https://career.mgimo.ru/
You may also consult the MGIMO career centre, where they offer advice on how to put together a resume, as well as assistance for finding a job that fits studentsโ profile.

They discussed the role of cooperation in preventing conflict and rivalry, the impact of cooperation on international relations in recent decades, and gave their assessments on the possibilities for cooperation in todayโs conflict-ridden world.
๐ฌ The event was attended by an audience of students and staff of the Diplomatic Academy, who also asked questions to our student speakers.

5 books that everyone seeking to make sense of world politics should read:
๐โMan, the State, and Warโ (1959) by Kenneth Waltz โ An all-time classic that tackles the ever relevant questions of why humans go to war against each other and whether it is possible to prevent this from happening in the future.
๐โThe Tragedy of Great Power Politicsโ (2001) by John Mearsheimer โ Covers the inescapability of the tragedy of great power politics through a look at the course of Sino-American relations amid Chinaโs rise and the aim of the United States to contain it.
๐โHegemony or Survival: Americaโs Quest for Global Dominanceโ (2003) by Noam Chomsky โ An immediate bestseller, written by one of the most cited scholars in modern history, that tracks the United Statesโ grand imperial strategy and pursuit of hegemony no matter how high the risks, even putting the very existence of humanity at stake.
๐โWorld Orderโ (2014) by Henry Kissinger โ Kissinger provides extensive consideration of the roots of international harmony and global disorder, and analyses the current state of world politics and the need to reconstruct the international system.
๐โHow Rich Countries Got Rich . . . and Why Poor Countries Stay Poorโ (2006) by Erik Reinert โ The book challenges common claims by development economists and opens up the debate on why lecturing poor countries on the need for free trade does not correspond to the actual course of development of national wealth.
Have you read any of these books? Are there any other books that have influenced your thinking on international relations that you would add to this list?
