A ceremonial meeting dedicated to the 106th anniversary of the birth of Indira Gandhi, a famous politician and the only woman Prime Minister of India, was held at the Russian House in New Delhi.
The meeting was organized by the Russian-Indian Friendship Society, which was founded by the first head of the Indian government, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Indira Gandhi came to Moscow nine times and, thanks to Russia, built a strong India. The Soviet Union provided Delhi with enormous scientific and technical assistance. The development of India's space program would have been impossible without Russia, the meeting participants noted.
At the evening in memory of Indira Gandhi, the Secretary General of the Friendship Society Dr. R.B. Singh, ex-MP Jai Parkash Aggarwal, co-chairman of the general council of the International Union of Non-Governmental Organizations "Eurasian Peoples' Assembly" Dalbir Singh and others spoke.
