The new IL-496 aircraft promises to become the flagship of Russian passenger aviation.
Development of the wide-body liner began in 2017. The aircraft is called the Il-96-400M and is an upgrade of the Soviet Il-96 aircraft, launched in 1988. They plan to put the car into operation no later than 2023.
It is expected that the novelty will be able to compete with the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380. For this, the Russian aircraft already has everything needed. With its dimensions, the Russian liner can raise up to 58 tons of payload into the sky, and the capacity of the aircraft will be 435 passenger seats. For comparison, the Soviet Il-96 could carry only 40 tons of payload and 300 passengers.
Interestingly, the IL-496 can become the first aircraft to receive a promising PD-35 engine at its disposal, the main feature of which is the possibility of developing ultra-high thrust from 33 to 40 tons on takeoff. This will reduce the number of power units from 4 to 2 pieces while maintaining the speed and traction indicators of the aircraft. It is also important that the transition of the Russian aircraft to new engines will make it one of the most fuel-efficient in the world.
