Father of montage: exhibition of photographs opened at the International Kolkata Book Fair in celebration of 125th birth anniversary of Sergei Eisenstein
On 9 February, a photo exhibition and a documentary screening dedicated to a pioneer of cinema Sergei Eisenstein was held at the International Kolkata Book Fair. Russian House presented the exhibition to visitors of the Russian pavilion. The documentary concentrated on methods of montage developed by Eisenstein and how he used them in his works.
Sergei Eisenstein (22 January 1898 - 11 February 1948) was a Soviet film director, screenwriter, film editor and film theorist. He believed the montage was the nerve of the cinema and could be used to manipulate emotions of the audience. The Soviet artist and director is best known for his silent montage films, including “Strike” (1924), Battleship Potemkin (1925) and “October” (1928).

From the Golden Horde to the Stalingrad battle: presentation on Russia took place at the International Kolkata Book Fair
On 9 February, Russian House in Kolkata held a presentation about the history of the formation of Russia, its state symbols, holidays and attractions in the national pavilion at the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair.
Visitors were introduced to the diversity of cultures and traditions of multinational Russia. Special attention was paid to the glorious pages of Russian history and its national heroes of different centuries.

In commemoration of 186th death anniversary of Alexander Pushkin ( 6 June 1799 - 10 February 1837), an Indian artist created his portrait during a live painting session.
A national poet of Russia and a founder of a modern Russian literary language, Alexander Pushkin is known to many in the world. On 9 February, an Indian national award winning artist Kingshuk Sarkar gifted a portrait of Pushkin to the Russian House in Kolkata in memory of the great Russian poet.

Immersive session on Russian folk culture took place in Kolkata
On 10 February, visitors of the Russian national pavilion of the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair took part in the immersion session on Russian folk culture, which was dedicated to the Year of Teacher and Mentor in Russia.
Irina Malysheva, a volunteer for the Russian House in Kolkata, had an introductory talk about the features of Russian national dress and the initial purpose of embroidery. Visitors of the pavilion learned to use Russian wooden spoons as percussion instrumens in three techniques, and also saw the basic elements of Russian folk dance.
Similarities between Slavic and Indian spring festivals - Maslenitsa and Holi - were noted and the folk game "Stream" was played as the integral part of the spring welcoming festival.

10 февраля посетители российского национального павильона 46-й Международной книжной ярмарки в Калькутте приняли участие в иммерсионной сессии по русской народной культуре, посвященной Году Педагога и Наставника в России.

Ancien Russian folk game "Rucheyok" ("Stream") symbolizes the melting of snow. The sun warmed the earth, the snow melted, murmuring streams ran everywhere.
The players stand in pairs, hold hands and lift them up to make a tunnel for the "stream". A single player without pair passes through the tunnel and chooses himself a pair. This new pair goes to the end of the tunnel. Whoever is left alone, he leads, walking through the tunnel and choosing whoever he wants. So the stream runs forward and forward.

Russian fairy tales came true at the International Kolkata Book Fair
On 12 February, Russian pavilion of the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair held a talk on Russian folk tales. Visitors came to know about the types of folk tales, main characters, magical artefacts and their properties: flying carpet, water of life, feather of the firebird and others.
A Russian folk tale "The Enormous Turnip" was brought to life with an impromptu theatrical act. Seven volunteers from the audience took part in the staging. They were awarded with Russian souvenirs for their participation.

On the results of the 46th International Kolkata Book Fair (IKBF-2023)
On February 12th, 2023, the largest book fair in Asia concluded in Kolkata. The Russian House in Kolkata with the support of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Kolkata held a series of events for Indian citizens and Russian compatriots during the 12 days of the Fair.
On February 3rd, there was a presentation of the State Scholarship Program for the academic year 2023/24. Visitors to the Russian national pavilion were interested in the variety of educational programs offered by the Russian government as part of the scholarship quota. Information brochures of Russian universities were also available at the stall.
On February 5th, the presentation “Great Names of Russian Literature” was held. The visitors learned about the peculiarities of the Russian literature as a world cultural phenomenon and the prominent writers who have defined its fundamental features - Alexander Pushkin, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Leo Tolstoy and others.
On February 7th, there was a workshop on Russian writing “My name in Russian”. Visitors to the Russian stall were acquainted with some features of the Russian alphabet and got an opportunity to write their names in Russian.
On February 8th, students of the Institute of Russian Language at the Russian House in Kolkata visited the Russian national pavilion and learned about various aspects of Russia: its culture, heritage, geography, literature, music and art. There was an open discussion about the Russian language and its current prospects.

Russian language was presented at the Kolkata Book Fair
📍 On 25 January, Russian House in Kolkata in collaboration with the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots held an introductory session on Russian language in the national pavilion of Russia at the 47th International Kolkata Book Fair.
💬 Visitors were acquainted with the basics facts about the Russian language, learned how to introduce themselves, how hold a small talk and spell their names in Russian language.
Irina Malysheva, information in-charge of the Russian House in Kolkata, presented the activities of the organization and the steps for the Russian State Scholarship application.
Russia is one of the permanent foreign participants of the International Kolkata Book Fair. The events with participation of Russian authors are planned from 18 to 31 January.
The organizer of Russian participation in the International Kolkata Book Fair was the Institute of Translation with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

💬 Посетители ознакомились с основными фактами о русском языке, научились знакомиться, вести беседу и писать свое имя на русском языке.
Ирина Малышева, сотрудник Русского дома в Калькутте, рассказала о деятельности организации и этапах подачи заявки на обучение в российских вузах в рамках квоты.
Организатором российского участия в Калькуттской международной книжной ярмарке выступил Институт перевода при поддержке Министерства цифрового развития, связи и массовых коммуникаций Российской Федерации.
