On December 20, Russian Father Frost and his granddaughter Snow Maiden appered in Kolkata to wish children on the upcoming New Year and Christmas.

Who is the Snow Maiden? ❄️
In Russia, the main characters of the New Year are considered to be the Father Frost and the Snow Maiden. The snow beauty gained wide popularity only in the 19th century after the release of a fairy tale, a play in verse by Alexander Ostrovsky about a doll made of snow, which later came to life.
According to legend, the Snow Maiden lives in the kingdom of Berendeyevo. In fact, there is a village Berendeevka, located in the Yaroslavl province. The relationship between the Snow Maiden and Father Frost changed. If in Ostrovsky's fairy tale the Snow Maiden was the daughter of Father Frost, now she is believed to be his granddaughter.
The heroine has her own residence in Kostroma. The hostess always greets guests with a traditional treat - bread and salt. After the Snow Maiden introduces the guests to the assistants - the cat Bayun and a couple of the household spirits - brownies.
Snow Maiden's residence has a special Ice Room. This is a very cold place, where the temperature is constant all year round - minus 15 degrees. Guests are offered Russian fur coats and felt boots. The Ice Room itself is small. Icicles hang from the air conditioner, and the light bulbs on the ceiling are covered in snow. The room is decorated with ice figurines.

Главными героями Нового года считаются Дед Мороз и Снегурочка. Широкую известность Снежная красавица получила только в XIX веке после выхода сказки о слепленной из снега кукле, которая в последствии ожила.
По преданию, героиня живет в царстве Берендеево. В действительности есть деревня Берендеевка, находится в Ярославской губернии. Родственный статус Снегурочки и Деда Мороза менялся. Если у Островского Снегурочка была дочерью Деда Мороза, то в новой версии она его внучка.
У героини есть своя резиденция в Костроме. Хозяйка всегда встречает гостей традиционным угощением — хлебом с солью. После Снегурочка знакомит гостей с помощниками — котом Баюном, домовым и домовихой. В Тереме есть особая Ледяная комната. Это очень холодное место, где круглый год поддерживается постоянная температура — минус 15 градусов. Гостям предлагаются русские шубы и валенки. Сама Ледяная комната маленькая. С кондиционера свисают сосульки, а лампочки на потолке покрыты снежным наростом. Комната украшена фигурками изо льда.
