On 12 April 1961, the first ever human space flight was carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen. This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity.
The UN General Assembly, in its resolution A/RES/65/271 of 7 April 2011, declared 12 April as the International Day of Human Space Flight “to celebrate each year at the international level the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of States and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.”

Gagarin's Lesson held in Kolkata
On 12 April 2022, 61 years after the first human space flight, performed by a Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, a presentation on him was held by the Institute of Russian language, Russian House in Kolkata.
The session began with a brief talk on significance of the International Day of Human Space Flight, April 12th, and the celebration of the Cosmonautics Day in Russia by the director of the Institute of Russian language Ms Madhabi Bhattacharya. It was followed by an illustrative presentation by a student of the Russian language course, Ishita Sinha, on life of Yuri Gagarin and on the starting points of the space era.
The session concluded with recitation of poems by the students: "Звезды высокие" (Sergey Yesenin) - read by Natasha Ghose, "Млечный Путь" (Rimma Aldonina) read by Tanusree Chatterjee, "In loving memory of Yuri Gagarin"- read and composed by Jagari Mukherjee, "To a Cosmonaut" read and composed by Biplab Roy.

On 12 April 2022, in commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the first space flight with a pilot cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, Russian House in Kolkata have opened an exhibition of photographs and books. Dr. M. Nara Singh, Former Minister of Science, Technology and Culture of Manipur, has inaugurated the exhibition.

On April 12, Cosmonautics Day, journalist Anatoly Wasserman will go live from the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics named after K.E.Tsiolkovsky and read the dictation.
The mechanics of the educational campaign involve filling in gaps in a literary text about space, where each gap is an objective historical or scientific fact.

How many monuments to the first cosmonaut Yury Gagarin are there in the world? 🌎
👩🚀 There are about 50 busts and monuments to Yury Gagarin in the world. They are located in different parts of the world as a tribute to the man who first stepped into space. We will tell you about the most unusual monuments to the pilot.
➡️ The first foreign monument to Gagarin was a sculpture erected in 1975 in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. Initially, it stood in front of the Geyser Colonnade, but was later moved to the airport. Today, Gagarin meets and warmly welcomes guests of the city right upon arrival.
✔️ And in Lyubertsy and in London, for example, there is the same monument. The first was built near the school where the pilot studied, and the second was erected in his likeness. The opening of the monument in London was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's visit to Great Britain.
👍 Another monument is located in Houston. It is a "double" of the monument in Kaluga, built in 2011. The copy is located near the former NASA headquarters.
