On 2nd of December, Russian House in Kolkata, jointly with the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots, organized a pre-New Year screening of the Soviet musical fairy tale film "Morozko"
The event was attended by students of grades 3-7 of the Central Modern School (Baranagar, West Bengal), for whom the trip was a reward for diligent behavior and attendance.
The children were acquainted with the peculiarities of the winter holidays in Russia and saw traditional Christmas ornaments made of glass and wood.
The film "Father Frost", or "Morozko" (1964) is designed in the style of a folk tale: there is a storyteller, poetic images of protagonists, rude masks of antagonists, beautiful costumes in the style of Ivan Bilibin's painting, a monolithic and thoughtful plot.
After the screening the young guests received sweet presents from the hands of Father Frost and were offered snacks and juice.

Christmas continues New Year's holidays. It is customary to decorate spruce with symbolic toys: candles, lanterns and figurines of biblical characters. The house is decorated with spruce branches, balls and Christmas wreaths. Previously, Christmas water was considered healing, so they not only washed themselves in it, but also kneaded the dough for pies and loaves.
The first attributes of the celebration of Christmas in Russia were brought by Peter I. Then they arranged a masquerade ball, decorated the Christmas tree. Before the tradition of putting up a festive tree appeared, houses decorated it with branches. Today, for the holiday, it is customary to bake a goose or duck, cook broth, pancakes and pork dishes.
In the villages, the traditions of caroling on the night before Christmas are still preserved: people dress up in folk costumes and walk around the courtyards with carol songs glorifying Christ and the owners of the house, in return they are presented with sweets, small coins and flour products. An obligatory attribute of carols is a Christmas star, which is made of colored paper and ribbons, and the image of Mother Mary is placed in the center.

Рождество продолжает новогодние праздники. Ель принято украшать символическими игрушками: свечами, фонариками и фигурками библейских персонажей. Дом украшают ветками ели, шариками и рождественскими венками. Раньше Рождественская вода считалась целебной, поэтому в ней не только мылись, но и замешивали тесто на пироги и караваи.
Первые атрибуты празднования Рождества в Россию принёс Пётр I. Тогда устраивали бал-маскарады, украшали ёлку. До того как появилась традиция ставить праздничное дерево, дома украшали его ветками. Сегодня на праздник принято запекать гуся или утку, готовить взвар, блины и блюда из свинины.
В селах до сих пор сохранились традиции колядовать в ночь перед Рождеством: люди наряжаются в народные костюмы и ходят по дворам с песнями-колядками, прославляющими Христа и хозяев дома, в ответ их одаривают сладостями, мелкими монетами и мучными изделиями. Обязательный атрибут колядок –рождественская звезда, которую делают из цветной бумаги и лент, а в центр помещают образ Богородицы.

🎄 Ballet on ice captures spectators in St.Petersburg
Free open-air performances began on Elagin Island in St. Petersburg. The only one of its kind, the State Ice Ballet of Saint Petersburg presented the ballet performance “The Nutcracker” to the audience.
After the show, spectators were able to plunge into the fabulous atmosphere of the upcoming holidays on the ice-skating rink.

Rossotrudnichestvo joined the all-Russian charity event “The Christmas Wish Tree”. It helps fulfill the dreams of children from low-income families, with disabilities and disabilities throughout the country.
🎁 Among these guys are Ignat, who wanted to receive a snow scooter, and Stepan, who ordered a smart speaker as a gift. Polina also wanted to make friends with a modern gadget; she wanted to get a Yandex.Station smart speaker. 🎄 The Russian stove has arrived in Kolkata
The interactive New Year's fairy tale "Emelya and the Pike" was presented by Russian compatriots in Kolkata.
On December 22, the Russian House in Kolkata brought together young Russian compatriots and Indian children. A New Year's interactive fairy tale with games and a traditional round dance around the Christmas tree was prepared by the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots.
The kids tried themselves not only as actors, but also as artists, sending their works to the exhibition “My New Year's Dream - 2024”. The youngest spectator was not yet a year old, and the exhibition of paintings was decorated with a work by a 16-month-old abstract artist.
🎅 From the hands of the director of the Russian House, Sergei Shushin, all little dreamers received books in Russian language and sweet gifts and toys from the real Father Frost and Snowmaiden.
Also, compatriots were presented with an exhibition of New Year's cards from the famous Soviet artist Vladimir Zarubin. And what would New Year be without family crafts! Young compatriots made soft bunnies filled with candies at a master class on the ancient knotting technique.
In the spirit of the upcoming Christmas, the compatriots organized a fundraiser in support of the NELC School for the Blind Society in Cooch Behar District and the purchase of cakes made by the students.

🎄Русская печка приехала в Калькутту
Интерактивная новогодняя сказка "По щучьему велению" была представлена соотечественниками в Калькутте.
22 декабря Русский дом в Калькутте собрал маленьких российских соотечественников и индийских детей. Новогоднюю интерактивную сказку с играми, танцами и традиционным хороводом вокруг ёлки подготовила Индийская ассоциация российских соотечественников.
Ребята попроовали себя не только в роли актеров, но и художников, направив свои работы на выставку "Моя новогодняя мечта - 2024". Самому юному зрителю не было ещё и года, а выставку в том числе украсил рисунок 16-месячного абстракциониста.
🎅 Из рук директора Русского дома Сергея Шушина все маленькие мечтатели получили книги на русском языке, а сладкие подарки и игрушки - от самых настоящих Деда Мороза и Снегурочки.

The interactive New Year's fairy tale "Emelya and the Pike" was presented by Russian compatriots in Kolkata.
On December 22, the Russian House in Kolkata brought together young Russian compatriots and Indian children. A New Year's interactive fairy tale with games and a traditional round dance around the Christmas tree was prepared by the Indian Association of Russian Compatriots.
The kids tried themselves not only as actors, but also as artists, sending their works to the exhibition “My New Year's Dream - 2024”. The youngest spectator was not yet a year old, and the exhibition of paintings was decorated with a work by a 16-month-old abstract artist.
🎅 From the hands of the director of the Russian House, Sergei Shushin, all little dreamers received books in Russian language and sweet gifts and toys from the real Father Frost and Snowmaiden.
Also, compatriots were presented with an exhibition of New Year's cards from the famous Soviet artist Vladimir Zarubin. And what would New Year be without family crafts! Young compatriots made soft bunnies filled with candies at a master class on the ancient knotting technique.
In the spirit of the upcoming Christmas, the compatriots organized a fundraiser in support of the NELC School for the Blind Society in Cooch Behar District and the purchase of cakes made by the students.

Интерактивная новогодняя сказка "По щучьему велению" была представлена соотечественниками в Калькутте.
22 декабря Русский дом в Калькутте собрал маленьких российских соотечественников и индийских детей. Новогоднюю интерактивную сказку с играми, танцами и традиционным хороводом вокруг ёлки подготовила Индийская ассоциация российских соотечественников.
Ребята попроовали себя не только в роли актеров, но и художников, направив свои работы на выставку "Моя новогодняя мечта - 2024". Самому юному зрителю не было ещё и года, а выставку в том числе украсил рисунок 16-месячного абстракциониста.
🎅 Из рук директора Русского дома Сергея Шушина все маленькие мечтатели получили книги на русском языке, а сладкие подарки и игрушки - от самых настоящих Деда Мороза и Снегурочки.

Masked people went from house to house and sang songs on the day of the winter solstice. Over time, pagan songs gave way to Christian ones, and caroling began at Christmas after the Baptism of Rus' in the year 988.
