From June 3 to June 11, 2022, the XIV International Ballet Competition will be held in Moscow on the stage of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater of Russia
Traditionally, contestants of two age categories take part in the competition: junior (under 18 years old) and senior (under 27 years old). This year, 343 applications from 33 countries of the world were submitted to the competition, including Austria, Argentina, Belarus, Brazil, Great Britain, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, China, Russia, USA, Turkey, Sweden, Japan.
The mastery of the dancers will be assessed by an authoritative jury, which will include leading figures in the world of ballet art.
“Today there is a really active work in all key areas of preparation for the competition. The invitation campaign is gaining momentum. I am convinced that through joint efforts we will be able to accomplish an important task - to organize the most memorable International Ballet Competition dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the outstanding choreographer Yuri Grigorovich," said State Secretary - Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Alla Manilova.
Yuri Grigorovich: “The Moscow International Ballet Competition has always had truly worldwide fame. Participants, guests, specialists from all over the world come to Moscow, to the Bolshoi Theater every four years. And each new meeting marks a new mark in the development of ballet, if you like, to a certain extent determines the world order in the art of dance. We maintain the height and attractiveness of the competition, it is still the most authoritative authority in the global competition movement.”
The founder of the competition is the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The organizer of the XIV International Ballet Competition is FGBUK ROSCONCERT.

What is the meaning of the expression "the dying swan"?
A sluggish person who does something lazily, slowly, is called a "dying swan." The expression comes from the ballet of the same name, which shows the last moments of the swan's life.
The first short performance was staged in St. Petersburg in 1905. The ballerina Anna Pavlova, for whom the miniature was staged by Mikhail Fokine, performed this ballet about 4,000 times. Then it was performed by Maya Plisetskaya. It was he who influenced modern interpretations in Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake.
When Anna Pavlova danced The Dying Swan in Paris in 1909 as part of the Diaghilev's Russian Seasons, Camille Saint-Saens, a French composer, delighted with the choreographic composition to his music, hardly made his way into the dressing room of the ballerina. He told Anna that it was only thanks to her dancing that he realized that he had written good music. Thanks to the miniature, Pavlova's triumph was truly grandiose. The name of the Russian ballerina began to be pronounced with adoration and worship.

The program includes a charity concert from this year's nominees and the awards ceremony.
The artistic director of the project is the prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater, People's Artist of Russia Svetlana Zakharova, and the president is the choreographer, People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Grigorovich.

Maxim Aleshin,senior consul of the Russian Federation in Kolkata and Sergey Shushin, vice-consul and head of the Russian House in Kolkata, addressed the audience.
An exhibition of photographs dedicated to life and work of Tchaikovsky was introduced to the visitors. Chief guests presented an illustrative talk and released a book ''Essays on Classical Music' by Dr.Jyotirup Goswami.
Live music and screening of Tchaikovsky's ballet masterpieces brightened the evening.

Free open-air performances began on Elagin Island in St. Petersburg. The only one of its kind, the State Ice Ballet of Saint Petersburg presented the ballet performance “The Nutcracker” to the audience.
After the show, spectators were able to plunge into the fabulous atmosphere of the upcoming holidays on the ice-skating rink.

🔹The 2024/2025 ballet season at the Mariinsky Theatre has opened with Tchaikovsky's masterpiece "Swan Lake". The performance is dedicated to Marina Alexandrovna Vasilyeva, professor at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, who passed on her skills to several generations of famous soloists and prima ballerinas of the theatre.

🔹The 2024/2025 ballet season at the Mariinsky Theatre has opened with Tchaikovsky's masterpiece "Swan Lake". The performance is dedicated to Marina Alexandrovna Vasilyeva, professor at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, who passed on her skills to several generations of famous soloists and prima ballerinas of the theatre.
