Cosmonaut Yury Malyshev, twice Hero of the Soviet Union (16 June 1980 and 11 April 1984) and Ashoka Chakra awardee (1984) visited Russian House in Kolkata, Gorky Sadan. Yury Gagarin visited Calcutta as well, in November, 1961.

On 12 April 1961, the first ever human space flight was carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen. This historic event opened the way for space exploration for the benefit of all humanity.
The UN General Assembly, in its resolution A/RES/65/271 of 7 April 2011, declared 12 April as the International Day of Human Space Flight “to celebrate each year at the international level the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of States and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes.”

Gagarin's Lesson held in Kolkata
On 12 April 2022, 61 years after the first human space flight, performed by a Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, a presentation on him was held by the Institute of Russian language, Russian House in Kolkata.
The session began with a brief talk on significance of the International Day of Human Space Flight, April 12th, and the celebration of the Cosmonautics Day in Russia by the director of the Institute of Russian language Ms Madhabi Bhattacharya. It was followed by an illustrative presentation by a student of the Russian language course, Ishita Sinha, on life of Yuri Gagarin and on the starting points of the space era.
The session concluded with recitation of poems by the students: "Звезды высокие" (Sergey Yesenin) - read by Natasha Ghose, "Млечный Путь" (Rimma Aldonina) read by Tanusree Chatterjee, "In loving memory of Yuri Gagarin"- read and composed by Jagari Mukherjee, "To a Cosmonaut" read and composed by Biplab Roy.

From 10 to 16 April, two Kuzbass cities, Kemerovo and Novokuznetsk, will host an international festival dedicated to Yuri Gagarin.
Guests will enjoy exhibitions, lectures, sporting events, film screenings, competitions, quests, briefings, scientific conferences, gala concerts and other events, both in full-time and online format.

"Spectrum-X-Gamma" consists of two mirror telescopes. They operate on the principle of oblique incident optics. The apparatus makes a complete overview of the sky and creates a map of the Universe in X-rays with large galaxy clusters. It studies the evolution of galaxies and investigates the nature of the dark energy that is causing the Universe to expand with great acceleration. The invention weighs 2,712 kg. It was launched in 2019.

The First Cosmonaut" in celebration of the International Day of Human Space Flight and to mark the 62nd anniversary of the first space flight of a human. On 12 April 1961, a Soviet cosmonaut Yury Gagarin created a history becoming the first man to conduct a space flight. Gagarin made a full orbit on board of the Vostok-1 spaceship n 108 minutes.
Sergey Shushin, director of the Russian House in Kolkata, Maxim Aleshin, Senior Consul of the Russian Consulate General in Kolkata, S.Datta, curator of the Birla Planetarium, and Samit Saha, co-founder of the Astronomads Bangla group, inaugurated the exhibition and shared their thoughts on the importance of the milestone and other space developments, including the flight of the Indian astronaut Rakesh Sharma.
The visitors were shown documentaries on the Yury Gagarin's flight and other space launches. The exhibition will be open to public on 11-14 April, 4 to 7 p.m.

Директор Русского дома в Калькутте Сергей Владиславович Шушин, консул-советник Генерального консульства России в Калькутте Максим Анатольевич Алёшин, куратор планетария имени Бирлы С.Датта и соучредитель группы астрофотографов Astronomads Bangla Самит Датта торжественно открыли выставку и поделились своими мнениями о важности этой вехи и других космических событий, включая полет индийского астронавта Ракеша Шармы.
Посетителям были показаны документальные фильмы о полёте Юрия Гагарина и других космических запусках. Выставка продолжит свою работу 11-14 апреля с 16:00 до 19:00.

On the International Day of Human Space Flight - April 12th, - students of the Russian language courses at the Russian House in Kolkata had a session dedicated to the first man in space - a Soviet cosmonaut Yury Gagarin.
Students presented the demonstration on Yury Gagarin's biography and discussed the pioneers of the space exploration. Sergey Shushin, head of the Russian House in Kolkata, awarded students with memorable souvenirs.

Young participants of the sit and draw contest "Poehali!" gathered in the Russian House in Kolkata in celebration of the Cosmonautics Day and the International Day of Human Space Flight.
On 12 April 1961, Yury Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut and the first man to go to space, started off from the Baikonur cosmodrome with this word - "poehali" - or "Let's go!".

On 14 April, young artists aged 3 to 15 years gathered at the Russian House to celebrate the International Day of Human Space Flight by expressing their artistic vision of space exploration. Students of different art schools, including the Art Academy, Bhadreswar, took part in the art contest "Poehali!"
Sergey Shushin, director of the Russian House in Kolkata, gave a welcome speech, describing the first human space flight in history, conducted by a Soviet cosmonaut Yury Gagarin on 12 April 1961. A documentary on that flight was shown to children. They also visited the photo exhibition on space.
All the participants were awarded with certificates, souvenirs and watched the Soviet animated feature film "The Mystery of the Third Planet" (1981).

The organizers of the “Tsiolkovsky” Film Festival have established the Yuri Gagarin Grand Prix
February 27 at the exhibition-forum "Russia" at VDNKh, the president of the film festival Igor Ugolnikov said that the festival management has established grand prix in honor of the first cosmonaut of the planet Yuri Gagarin.
Earlier, the press service of the film festival said that this year it will be dedicated to the heroes of space and the 90th anniversary of the birth of Yuri Gagarin.
The festival itself will be held in Kaluga from April 12 to 16.
