Adygeans are the closest relatives of the Circassians, Shapsugs, Kabardians. In antiquity they were all one people - Adygs, which during the Soviet years were already divided on a territorial basis. Adygeans mainly live in the Republic of Adygea and Krasnodar region.

A special role in the traditions of Adygeans is played by the art of dance. A well-known pair dance is the lyrical islamey, in which a man, like a proud eagle, circles around a modest girl, and she responds to his advances. There is a more rhythmic and simple ritual dance - uj, popular at weddings and during folk festivals.

Adygeans have many customs associated with children. When a child is born, a flag is hung over the house. A monochrome flag indicates the birth of a boy, and a motley flag - a girl. The baby's first attempts to walk are celebrated with the rite of the "first step". The parents hold a feast, inviting many guests. During the feast, the child is placed on a rock, saying: "Let him stand as firmly as a stone!" Then, a twig is drawn across the floor between the child's legs in several strips, simulating the "cutting of invisible fetters" that supposedly bind his or her legs.

Traditional Adygean cuisine consists mainly of dairy, flour and meat products. During the 1980 Olympics, foreigners from all over the world learned about Adygean cheese, and it became very popular.
